This article shows you how to use a third-party charger to charge an iPhone. The only reliable way to be able to charge an iPhone battery with a non-genuine charger is to use a certified MFi cable.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Purchase a Third Party Cable
Step 1. Search the web for a certified MFi cable
The MFi cables (acronym for "Made For iDevices") are all certified by Apple, which guarantees their operation with all iOS devices even if they have been produced by third parties. Certified MFi cables ensure full charging of any iOS device without any hassle or interruption.
Even though certified MFi cables are cheaper than the original Apple branded ones, they are still expensive components
Step 2. Look for "Made for" for certification for use with iOS devices
It should be visible somewhere on the packaging of the cable you have chosen to purchase. The abbreviation "Made for" will be followed by the list of iOS devices with which it is compatible (for example iPhone, iPad, iPod) characterized by the relative icon. If you do not find "MFi" in the name of the cable or the word "Made for" on its packaging, it means that it is an accessory without the "MFi" certification and therefore is not compatible with the iPhone.
If you are shopping online and therefore cannot physically view the cable packaging, try to contact the retailer by e-mail for more information
Step 3. Review the reviews of other users who have already purchased the product you are interested in
If in the most recent reviews it is indicated that the cable in question no longer works with new versions of the iOS operating system, it means that it is most likely not an "MFi" certified accessory.
If you chose to purchase from an electronics store, ask to speak to a customer service representative or Apple's product department
Step 4. Look for the serial number of the MFi cable
If the reviews of other users who have already purchased the product are positive, you can consider proceeding with the purchase. Otherwise, continue the search for an MFi certified cable.
Some MFi certified cables that have always worked with an iOS OS version may stop doing this as soon as the iPhone is updated. For this reason it is always good to buy a cable that has been recently manufactured
Method 2 of 2: Turn off the iPhone
Step 1. Connect the cable to the iPhone
If the cable is not compatible with the iOS device, you will see the following message appear on the screen: "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work properly with iPhone".
Step 2. Press the OK button
This will close the popup window containing the message.
Step 3. Press and hold the power button
After a few seconds, the "slide to power off" slider should appear at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Swipe your finger, from left to right, on the cursor that appears
It is located at the top of the screen. This way the iPhone will be completely shut down. In some cases, battery charging will only take effect while the device is turned off, as the software restrictions of the iOS operating system will not be active at this time.
Step 5. Turn on the device after 10 minutes have passed
Simply press the power button until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. If the remaining battery charge has increased, turn off the iPhone again and let it charge for 2 hours.
Depending on the version of the iOS operating system installed on the iPhone and the iPhone model, the procedure described in this section of the article may not work. In this case the only solution is to purchase a certified MFi cable
Advice
- Most MFi cables on the market clearly list the iOS device models with which they are compatible. So, before proceeding with the purchase, carefully check that the cable chosen is compatible with the model of iPhone in your possession.
- To get around the limitations imposed by the iPhone's iOS operating system, you can jailbreak the latter. However, remember that this procedure involves numerous risks and invalidates the manufacturer's warranty, so to solve the problem in the quickest and easiest way, consider purchasing a certified MFi cable.
