This article explains how to create a Telegram group for a large community (200 to 200,000 members) on an Android device.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Create a New Supergroup
Step 1. Open Telegram on your Android device
It's the icon of a white paper airplane on a blue background. It is usually found in the application menu or on the main screen.
- Supergroups are best suited for groups of more than 200 members.
- Supergroup administrators can pin important messages at the top of the group. They can also delete any messages that appear in the conversation.
Step 2. Click on ☰
This icon looks like three horizontal lines and is located in the upper left corner of the screen.
Step 3. Select New Group
Step 4. Select each member you want to add to the group
Select at least one member to add at this time. You can always add more later.
Step 5. Click on the check mark
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Name the group
To start typing the name, press on the box at the top of the screen: the keyboard will appear.
Step 7. Click on the check mark
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. You will then be redirected to the group you just created.
Step 8. Click on the group name
It is located at the top of the screen.
Step 9. Press on ⁝
This button is located in the upper right corner of the screen. A menu will appear.
Step 10. Select Convert to supergroup
A confirmation message will appear, reminding you that it is not possible to convert a supergroup back to a normal group.
Step 11. Click on Ok
Your new group will then become a supergroup.
To add more members, open the group, tap the name at the top, then select Add member.
Method 2 of 2: Convert a Normal Group to a Super Group
Step 1. Open Telegram on your Android device

Step 2. Select the group you want to edit
This will open it.
Step 3. Click on the group name
It is located at the top of the screen. This will open a screen dedicated to group settings.
Step 4. Click on ⁝
This button is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 5. Click Convert to supergroup
A confirmation message will appear to remind you that it is not possible to convert a supergroup back to a normal group. This action cannot be undone.
Step 6. Click on Ok
The new group will thus have been converted into a supergroup.
