Nowadays, no skirt is truly complete without a hem. Sewing a hem isn't as difficult as it might seem - read on to learn how to do it!
Steps
Step 1. Decide how much fabric to hem
The fabric used to hem the skirt will obviously decrease the length of the skirt itself. If it's a long skirt, you could use 2.5cm of fabric. If the skirt is already short, however, 1 cm may be enough.
Step 2. Mark with a very light colored marker or pen on the inside of the skirt, 2.5 cm from the end
Of course, if you want the hem to be more or less than 2.5cm, measure and mark the length you want.
You can also use a tape measure or ruler to measure the hem. Pin along the line of the future seam after measuring with the ruler or tape measure. Fold the hem along the seam line by removing the pins as you go, and then pin the desired length again. Press the pin-attached hem using a lot of steam to secure the hem seam line. Continue with the next steps
Step 3. Pin the skirt fabric on the inside so that the end of the skirt reaches the line you just created
Using pins, secure the fabric.
Step 4. Thread a needle
The thread should be the color of the fabric, or a very similar color. It can also be transparent. It is better if the color of the fabric does not contrast with that of the thread.
Step 5. Sew as far out of the fabric as possible, where the hem seam line you marked earlier is
Continue until the entire skirt is sewn. After that, sew in the opposite direction for about 2.5 cm, to make sure the thread doesn't come out.
Step 6. To finish, sew in the same stitch inside and out five times
Then, cut the thread and that's it!
