Drawing a cat is easy. Follow this tutorial to draw a cartoon cat or a realistic cat.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Draw a Cartoon Cat
Step 1. Make a sketch for the head and body
Use a head hoop. In the center, draw a vertical and a horizontal line that intersect. Add a large oval shape for the cat's body.
Step 2. Add the eyes with two circles, then sketch the nose and mouth
Draw two shapes like half almonds on the head.
Step 3. Draw the cat's paws, making the back one circular
Step 4. Draw the tail, long and curved
Step 5. Darken the eyes and add the mustache
You can also draw a collar around the cat's neck.
Step 6. Draw the body, adding fur in some places
Step 7. Color the cat
Method 2 of 4: Cat in an Upright Position (Side View)
Step 1. Make a sketch of the main outline
Sketch a circle for the head. The body is a rectangle with a curved line at the end near the head. Draw a large, flattened oval for the leg area.
Step 2. Make a sketch for the basic features for the muzzle
Add reference lines for the mouth area, ears and muzzle. Try to make the muzzle shorter and more square.
Step 3. Add more details for the head
Add the eyes and make sure they are in the intersection area of the reference lines for the face. Then add the nose.
Step 4. Draw ovals for the thighs and legs
Add the tail as well.
Step 5. Draw the main characteristics of the mantle
Use the lines to create a kind of pattern in the cat's fur.
Step 6. Erase the reference lines and add more details
Step 7. Color the final drawing
Use colored pencils, wax paints or any other technique according to your needs
Method 3 of 4: Resting Cat
Step 1. Sketch a circle and an oval
These figures will serve as a reference for the head and body.
Step 2. Add the reference lines for the face
Add the nose area, the references for the muzzle and the ears.
Step 3. Sketch circles and other ovals for the thighs and legs
In the reference figure 3 ovals are used for each leg.
Step 4. Add guidelines for the face
Step 5. Draw the main characteristics of the cat
Use rough lines to indicate fur.
Step 6. Erase the reference lines and add more details
You can add more details like whiskers and fur.
Step 7. Color and complete the drawing
Method 4 of 4: Draw a Realistic Cat
Step 1. Make a sketch for the body
Draw a circle for the head, making a vertical and a horizontal line cross in the center. For the body draw another circle, this time much larger, and a curved line attached to the back.
Step 2. Trace the contours of the muzzle
Make the animal's cheeks plump and ears pointy.
Step 3. Add two small ovals at the bottom of the head and a curved line running from one to the other
This will serve as a guide for drawing the nose and mouth. Draw another couple of small ovals on the lower part of the body and, next to these, draw a long rectangle.
Step 4. Draw the details of the face
Make almond-shaped eyes, outline the nose and, when tracing the contours of the muzzle, use short pencil strokes, to give the idea of the hair.
Step 5. Add the cat's whiskers and eyebrows with longer strokes
Step 6. Draw the legs, tail and nails
Remember to use short pencil strokes for a furry effect.
