Commercially sold shampoos contain chemical cleansing agents called sulfates. In the long run, sulfates can dry out and damage hair. If you want your hair to be healthy and shiny, learn how to make your own custom shampoo based on natural and inexpensive ingredients. Read the article and prepare your shampoo based on Marseille soap, soap flakes or baking soda.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Shampoo with Soap Flakes

Step 1. Get the ingredients

This shampoo can be made with any type of soap flake. Normally, Marseille soap is used but, if you wish, you can reduce any type of soap into flakes, the important thing is that the chosen soap contains only natural ingredients suitable for your hair. You will need:

  • Soap flakes
  • Boiling water
  • Almond oil
  • Essential oils

Step 2. Break the soap into flakes

If you have not purchased ready-made soap flakes, use a knife, or a normal grater, to create small soap flakes suitable for dissolving in hot water. To make about 1 liter of shampoo you will need about 120 g of soap. Pour the flakes into a large bowl.

Step 3. Bring the water to a boil

Pour 950 ml of water into a saucepan and put it on the fire. Alternatively, heat it using the microwave.

Step 4. Pour the boiling water over the soap flakes

Boiling water will dissolve them immediately. Stir the mixture with a spoon to make sure it has an even consistency.

Step 5. Add the oils

Pour 60 ml of almond oil and 8 drops of an essential oil of your choice, such as lemon or mint, into the bowl. Stir to mix the ingredients and then let it cool.

Step 6. Pour the shampoo into a bottle

Be careful and use a funnel to not lose a single drop of your precious shampoo. Use it as usual.

Step 1. Get the ingredients

The shampoo designed for dry hair contains ingredients capable of giving the hair extra hydration and preventing unwanted frizz. Dry hair also tends to get damaged and break easily, which is why this shampoo strengthens its structure. Go to the supermarket and a stocked herbalist's shop and buy the following ingredients:

  • Chamomile
  • Liquid Marseille soap
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Tea tree essential oil
  • Peppermint essential oil
  • Rosemary essential oil

Step 2. Prepare the chamomile tea

Dip the chamomile sachet in 60 ml of boiling water and leave it to infuse for 10 minutes. If you prefer to use chamomile flowers, 1 tablespoon is the ideal amount. Filter your chamomile tea and set it aside.

Step 3. Heat the castile soap

Pour 350ml of soap into a microwave safe container. Heat the soap in the microwave at 1 minute intervals. The soap should be hot, but it shouldn't come to a boil.

If you prefer to heat the soap in a saucepan using a low heat, make sure it doesn't reach too high a temperature

Step 4. Add the oils

Incorporate 15ml of extra virgin olive oil, 7ml of tea tree essential oil, 4ml of mint essential oil and 4ml of rosemary essential oil. Stir gently after adding each oil.

Step 5. Add the chamomile tea

Pour the chamomile tea into the hot soap mixture. Incorporate it slowly to prevent bubbles from forming. Set your shampoo aside and let it cool. Transfer it to a suitable sized container and use it as usual.

Method 3 of 3: Shampoo with Bicarbonate

Step 1. Get the ingredients

This dry shampoo is a valid alternative to the classic liquid shampoo. You can use it between washes to absorb excess sebum and to give your hair a clean look and scent. In addition to baking soda, you will need:

  • corn flour
  • oat flour
  • Dried lavender

Step 2. Blend the ingredients

Combine 180g of baking soda, 75g of cornmeal, 20g of oatmeal, and a few grams of dried lavender flowers. Pour the ingredients into a food processor and chop finely.

  • If you don't want to grind the ingredients, avoid flowers and oatmeal. The shampoo will be effective even without these ingredients.
  • You can replace the food processor with a grinder or blender.

Step 3. Pour the mixture into a spice container

In time of need, you can apply your dry shampoo directly to the skin. Store the remaining shampoo in an airtight container and use it to fill the spice rack.

  • Apply the dry shampoo to completely dry hair. Otherwise it will stick to your hair.
  • Apply the shampoo to the roots and distribute it over the hair with a brush. Leave it on for about ten minutes and then brush your hair vigorously to remove excess dust.
