For some people, getting out of bed in the morning is the hardest self-control test they can face. Here is a guide for how to wake up smoothly in the morning.
Steps
Step 1. Give yourself an appropriate amount of sleep
Certainly all of us, at times, have evenings when we have too much to do to be able to go to bed early, but generally we should ensure regular hours of sleep that are appropriate for our bodies (they can change from person to person).
Step 2. Take extra steps to wake up comfortably
Especially in winter it can be very difficult to get out of bed, because it is warm, while the air is cooler outside. One trick I follow is to put a sweatshirt or dress right next to my bed so I can get up and face the day without freezing. Whatever method you want to follow, make sure you make the alarm as comfortable as possible.
Step 3. Put the alarm clock on the other side of the room
Keep it out of your reach, so when you turn it off you have to physically get out of bed. This will force you to get moving right away. If you have enough energy, do some yoga or some simple exercises to get your body into action! It's a great way to start the day!
Step 4. Drink plenty of water just before going to bed
This way you will have to go to the bathroom rather quickly in the morning. This is helpful because getting up will prevent you from going back to bed.
Step 5. Light
Immediately after turning off the alarm, turn on the lights in the room.
Step 6. Stretching
Do some stretching, so you allow the blood to flow through the body and wake you up.
Step 7. Get up faster after sipping a soda
The night before, put a bottle of ice water next to the alarm clock. In the morning, as soon as you turn it off, sip the water (it will be melted, but still cold). This really gets you moving. You can also prepare your coffee, or your favorite drink in advance, and store it in the fridge, so in the morning you can simply put it in the microwave to warm it up a bit.
Step 8. Rinse your face with water or take a shower
This method is similar to the previous step. A hot shower or cold water on your face make the blood flow and wake you up completely.
Step 9. Try to spend at least the first 15 minutes of your daily routine at a leisurely pace
It's nice to just take a few moments to watch TV, check Facebook or email, and have time to fully wake up before facing the rest of the world.
Step 10. Make wake up time as smooth and simple as possible
Pick your clothes the night before, making sure everything is ready and easy to find for the next morning, etc. The thought of having to get up and have so much to do isn't very encouraging to start the day.
Advice
- If you develop a sequence of gestures and actions that you perform routinely (such as rituals with a certain timing), the more you follow it, the easier it becomes. Eventually, your body will just have to get up and start preparing automatically.
- Set a security alarm, just in case.
