Many adults don't want to admit it, but some lessons are so boring that you can't get any benefit from them. If you are careful and don't turn absences into a habit, skipping classes can give you some free time, without paying major consequences.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Call the School
Step 1. Call the institution to skip a class or school day
If you only want to skip a few classes, you claim that you have a visit to the doctor or dentist, or that you can't go to school for family reasons. Usually, you shouldn't try to mimic a parent's voice, because the person answering the phone is not a fool; better ask someone else to call for you.
Older siblings or cousins might help you and call the institution, as well as friendly neighbors or your friends' siblings. Make sure they are short and don't reveal too many details
Step 2. Make an appointment or pretend you have one
To skip a day of school, the best strategy is to have a real commitment to stick to. You could tell your parents that the dentist has set you up for a bogus visit, or that they need to justify your absence because your coach wants to study the schedules for Saturday's game with you. If your parents call the institution, the school will not question the authenticity of your commitment, even if it were to be made up.
Step 3. Be as vague as possible
When you come up with a fake commitment, it's best to stay vague and avoid the details, so as not to arouse suspicion. If you can get your brother to call school and say, "My son has a doctor's appointment this morning and can't come to school," the institution won't question your excuse.
Method 2 of 3: Pretend a Health Problem
Step 1. Get ready to act
If after chatting and laughing with your friends in class all day, you try to tell your teacher that you suddenly feel like throwing up, no one would believe you. If you want to fake a malaise, you need to prepare your moves in advance:
- Remain silent throughout the day, keeping a worried expression. Hold your head in your hands and sigh deeply. Squint your eyes.
- Do not rush. Better to let another person talk about your health first. If you can act well enough, keeping your head down and looking in pain, your teacher may ask you, "Is everything okay?" At that point you might say "I don't know, I don't feel so good. I think I can do it, though." It is always better not to be the victim.
Step 2. Ask if you can go to the infirmary
After spending some time on your play, approach the teacher and ask, "I'm starting to feel worse. I have a headache and stomach ache. Can I go to the infirmary?" This way you will have a chance to walk away from the classroom and you will have overcome your first obstacle.
Alternatively, get up in a hurry and ask to go to the bathroom. Move away quickly, as if something is wrong, then slow down and slowly make your way to the bathroom once you leave the classroom. Stay in the bathroom for a while, wash your hands, then return to the classroom after having time to "throw up". Softly explain to the teacher that you just threw up and would like to go to the infirmary
Step 3. Describe your "symptoms" to the nurse
You have many choices available, which can allow you to go home, spend the rest of the lesson in the infirmary or give you the option to escape after having the green light to leave the classroom:
- If you want to be sent home without further questions, he explains that he vomited. No one would take the responsibility of letting a boy who just threw up in the bathroom stay in school, risking spreading an infection throughout the institution. The nurse will call your parents and ask if they can pick you up, or will let you go if you have come to school in your car.
- If you want to skip a lesson, you claim to have a headache. If you just can't stand the thought of another hour of boredom, why not take a nap in the infirmary? At the end of the hour, the nurse will check your health; you can answer that you feel better and want to go back to class, or that you prefer to go home.
- If you want to skip the rest of the day without your parents being informed, leave the institution instead of heading to the infirmary. Get away and go wherever you like.
Method 3 of 3: Get Out of School Early
Step 1. Learn about attendance rules
Each school has different rules on absences. Find out how many absences you already have against you and what the consequences are for the next one. Even if your intention is to sneak out and not be marked as absent, there is always a chance of getting caught. Find out if the worst consequence that awaits you is a minor note on the register, or a severe punishment, such as a suspension.
Step 2. Choose which lesson to skip
If you can, prefer those of professors who do not always make the roll. In general, it will be easier for you to be able to skip a lesson without suffering consequences if the teacher is friendly and if you have attended all of their other lessons over the course of the year.
Step 3. If possible, use an excuse
This strategy has limitations; each teacher will only believe your apology once or twice. If you are successful, however, you will get the green light to skip the rest of the lesson without consequences. Here are some ideas you might try:
- Be nervous and say you have "stomach problems".
- If you are a girl, reveal that you are suffering from menstrual pain or have "girl problems".
- Be upset and ask if you can speak to the institution's psychologist.
- Voluntarily leave your backpack or other item in another classroom. You can say that you have lost it or that you have left it in the gym locker room and that you are worried because it contains important items (keys, wallet, etc.). Don't really leave these items unattended, though).
Step 4. Don't give the impression that you are a student trying to skip a class
Leave the backpack somewhere, like a student going to the bathroom, not one trying to leave the institution.
If you are quite tall and your school is very big, you can try wearing elegant clothes and pretending to be an adult. This can save you from the looks of the school staff, but it won't help you if someone stops you and asks you for an explanation
Step 5. Pay attention to cameras and school staff
After school, check all the school exits for cameras, security personnel, and windows that you might be seen from. You will usually be able to climb over a low fence or pass through a forgotten side entrance to leave school without being seen.
If there is an exit from the gym or sports field, try using that
Step 6. Exit the previous lesson a few minutes earlier
Ask the teacher if you can go to the bathroom five or ten minutes before the end of the lesson. Even if he didn't let you go, you'd have an excuse to snap out the door at the sound of the bell. Your goal is to get as far away as possible before the next lesson begins, while the corridors are still full of people.
Step 7. Pretend you have a permit (optional)
Falsifying a permit can get you in serious trouble, according to your institution's policies. If the school staff's controls are not very strict, a written sheet of the color and size of the original may suffice.
Step 8. Sneak out or find a place to hide
If school staff are checking the exits during time changes, hide in the bathroom or an empty classroom and wait for the next lesson to begin. Go out without being seen as soon as you get the chance.
If your institution's security is very strict or if there is no place for you to hide, you may decide to skip an entire lesson hidden in the bathroom. If you choose this option, make sure you have some really fun games on your phone
Step 9. Avoid going to places where you can get caught
In some countries, truancy is a crime. If you get caught, you will face severe punishment, so you will have to be quite discreet to meet your friends. Don't go straight to the bar that all students go to after school, don't visit the mall or the park in front of the school. Stay away from school, stay in low-traffic neighborhoods and absolutely avoid places where friends or parents can see you.
Step away from school directly when you leave school. Do not pass in front of windows or fences, to avoid the risk of being seen by a professor
Step 10. Prepare to face your parents
Many schools call home to report your absences. You have to choose whether to admit your guilt or make up an excuse. You judge which strategy is best, according to the character of your parents.
- Use school policies to your advantage. If pupils in your school are marked absent after five minutes, claim that you entered class late because you were in the bathroom.
- If one of your parents is much more rigid than the other, admit your guilt when only the most accommodating is present.
Advice
- If you want to skip a class because a classmate is harassing you or because a teacher takes it out on you, talk to the school counselor.
- Skipping school assemblies is usually easier than skipping a class. Additionally, your parents may not give much thought to those absences, especially if your grades are good.
- If you drive your car to school, be sure to park away from the entrance and away from cameras that can recognize your license plate.
- Don't act suspicious. If a teacher passes by you, don't stoop and don't run away. Be calm and relaxed.
- Try saving your number on your phone as "mom" or "dad". This way, you can text yourself with an excuse to skip school and your teachers will believe it came from a parent.
Warnings
- Truancy is illegal in many countries and can get your parents in as much trouble as you do.
- In some schools you will be reported absent all day after skipping the first lesson.
