You only have one chance to make the first impression. Looking superficial and stunned can give the impression that you are less intelligent than you actually are. Read on for tips on how to look bright and alert, as well as being aware of how the world and the things around you turn.
Steps
Step 1. Take a couple of days or weeks to observe yourself and see how you present yourself to others
You know your friends like you but you don't know how your boss, your teachers, or strangers on the street see you. Look at your outward appearance and your approach to things.
- Take a picture of yourself every day in a different outfit.
- Observe your attitudes and see what you do that generates negative attention towards you, and what arouses a positive impression instead. Think about why you do certain things. Do you do it to do the opposite? To draw attention? To look like your friends or to feel good in a group? Evaluate the results. You now know something about yourself through this process of introspection. Can the results obtained apply to the general population? Perhaps. Now you are a philosopher!
- Remember that you can improve your appearance without losing integrity or friends.
Step 2. A good way to look smart is to learn some random basics
You need to know a little bit of everything, then stock up on these notions. Do you know that this was the eighth president and began his mandate in 1837? You see? If someone talks to you about something or to you and some friends, and you have some basic notions, let them know. Don't interrupt others or you will look like an idiot. But remember that there is a fine line between hinting that you know something here and there, and being a know-it-all. Be careful not to do it too often.
Step 3. You can always keep your personality and style
If you dress sloppy or more adult than your age, you will need to leave your comfort zone and be willing to try something new.
Step 4. If you are younger you will need to tell your parents about the changes you would like to make
You can slowly change your wardrobe by adding pieces that make you look like a brighter person. Don't think you can go around spending a lot of money to buy new stuff. Looking elegant costs.
Step 5. Observe the people you respect and think about the things that set you apart
Is it the outward appearance? Self-confidence? Do they seem more interesting? Br>
Step 6. Stop living in your little world and start looking outside
- Read at least 20 minutes of online news every day.
- Read about different topics or people that interest you.
- Visit museums, art exhibitions, historical sites, planetariums, etc. Immerse yourself in the world around you. Knowledge makes you more knowledgeable and experienced, and you will have more interesting things to talk about.
- Forget video games and don't spend all night on your computer chatting with friends. You don't have to give up entirely, but reduce, to make room for other things.
Step 7. Participate in charity or civil service activities
This will broaden your view of the world and get you to know people and society better.
Step 8. Spend time talking to people who are older than you and who are more experienced
Talk about the past, historical events they have experienced and ask questions
Step 9. Attend classes when you are in school and don't get confused with the walls
Make sure you answer as many challenging questions as possible, but avoid commenting on obvious things as they won't earn you any respect, in fact one wrong answer will make you look stupid. Ask questions and talk freely to the teacher about these subjects and ideas, either during or after class. Your teachers will respect your interest, even if they have recently discovered it.
Step 10. Do your homework and be prepared
This includes reading, reporting, and even some extra research.
Step 11. Don't feel pressured to comment on everything
Sometimes the best thing to do is just listen. Plus others will appreciate your opinions if they are less frequent.
Step 12. Don't try to bluff by saying you know something about certain topics
People who really know that subject would notice it instantly. Rather, wait for the topic of the conversation to change into something more familiar to you, or direct the conversation in that direction.
Step 13. Ask the questions
Be interested. Don't pretend you know everything. The smartest people ask a lot of questions. It is called the Socrates method.
Step 14. Surround yourself with smart friends and interesting people
Step 15. Be genuine
You will look smarter if you talk about the things you know. Of course, you can also take a quantum physics book with you, but when a person who chews the subject starts a conversation you will seem like a hypocrite And stupid.
Step 16. Expand knowledge of the things that interest you
If you like music you can read books about your favorite band, record companies, old bands that inspired current bands, digital production, instruments, etc. The same can be said for art, history, fashion, psychology, religion, etc. Take these books with you and you will look smart and infinitely more interesting than someone who just pretends.
Step 17. Examine your clothes and start adding pieces to your wardrobe that make you look brighter
- Pants and jeans.
- Buy tailored trousers that fit well in length, waistline, and generally fit you well. If they fit you well it will seem that you have wasted time deciding how to dress.
- Buy jeans that fit you properly. If they are very long you should wear heels (for women) or have them shortened. Nobody looks brilliant wearing jeans of many sizes that crawl to the floor. It will appear that you found a random pair of pants and that you didn't care how they went.
- For boys, non-baggy corduroy trousers or khakis are fine, while in summer, khaki shorts.
- T-shirts are fine but avoid questionable or rough graphics.
-
Avoid overly large t-shirts. Start looking for t-shirts with meaningful messages, vintage rock bands, and clever lettering.
Make sure the shirts are in theme with your interests. You don't want someone to ask you the meaning of the writing, and you don't know what it means. It's okay to dress in your favorite band's t-shirt but combine it with a jacket so you make it your style and it doesn't look like it came out of a t-shirt sale. You can keep some things in your current wardrobe, just polish up the other items
- Don't wear t-shirts every day. If you do, you should try to match a jacket and accessories, such as a belt and appropriate shoes.
Step 18. Wear shirts sometimes, for a change
Buy shirts that are tailored to your physique. Choose the appropriate length, neither too long nor too short. Plan ahead and don't go looking for old styles at the bottom of the drawer when the season changes.
- Women and girls should look for dresses that look tailored and showcase their best qualities. Don't hide behind thick sweaters or sweatshirts, rather look for clothes that look tailor-made. Make a mix between short and long sleeves. If it suits you, you can combine it with bright colors and trendy prints.
- Guys should wear shirts of the appropriate size. Vary by choosing fun colors. If they look good on you, combine bright colors and trendy prints.
Step 19. Men and women should avoid wearing athletic stuff and shoes unless they are really exercising
This does not mean that you can wear them if you are going to play sports afterwards, but rather that unless you are really going to the gym, running or physical education, you have to keep the sports stuff in a bag. This also includes your favorite shirt.
Step 20. Wear undamaged shoes (with no marks or wear) that fit well and can be polished (unless suede)
You can buy well made shoes with nice colors that enhance your style and make you look refined, always keeping the style of your personality.
Step 21. Men should invest in a pair of both black and brown shoes
Look for, as mentioned above, shoes that can be polished and that are not worn.
Step 22. Pay particular attention to personal hygiene! Regardless of how smart or not you may be, you need to take care of your personal hygiene on a daily basis
- Shower and shave regularly. At least once a day, or several times if you play sports.
- Wear a good perfume or body spray.
- Guys should get their hair cut every month or so. If you like long hair you should at least have your hair cut behind the neck. You can also wear them long and bizarre but you always have to keep a shape and a clean look.
- The hairy neck will look scruffy and dirty.
- Women should avoid dyeing their hair unless they have the time and money to cure the regrowth and maintain that look.
- Black is on trend but it might look like an unnatural black. Use colors that look good and bring out the color of your skin.
Step 23. Follow a facial care schedule and stick to it on a daily basis
- Wash and exfoliate your skin with facial care products appropriate for your skin type.
- See a dermatologist if you have acne or other skin problems.
Step 24. Sight is a great thing
Get glasses if you need them.
- Get an eye exam if you haven't done it for a while, if you don't see the back of the class, or if you have a headache when you read or spend a lot of time on the computer.
- If you need glasses you should buy a neutral colored plastic or metal frame (brown, tortoiseshell, or black).
- If you wear silver jewelry you should get a silver frame.
- If you don't need glasses, you can take those that don't need a prescription, but you run the risk of being made fun of if someone notices. Glasses represent a commitment. Instead of wearing contact lenses and fake glasses, just put on real glasses; they will give you a more intellectual look.
Advice
- Don't brag about being smart. It is the people who do not need to point this out, who are perceived as the most intelligent.
- Sit next to the smartest people in class (chemistry, biology, etc.) when you need to form a group. It keeps you alert and you will be less tempted to be a clown.
- Smart people know when to ask for help. If you don't understand the subject you should ask for help or supervision.
- Listen and ask questions. You are more interesting when you ask questions rather than nodding yes, pretending to understand everything.
- Don't pretend to know more than you really know. If people find out, you'll look like a jerk.
- Enter a school competition that requires essays, art work, or tests. Even if you don't win it will be a great experience.
- Ditch friends who have a bad influence on you and don't make you a better person. You can be judged stupid based on who you hang out with.
- Ask to attend more challenging classes and not attend easy ones out of laziness.
- Keep up with your homework at school or at work. Only then can you look smart and not a slacker.
- Ask your boss to take you on a training course or provide it so you can advance your career or take on business management.
Warnings
- Don't brag about your intelligence or grades; this just makes you look like a person full of arrogance.
- Don't give advice on something if you're not sure.
- Do not disclose your grades to other students. If anyone asks you, be honest. If it's a good grade, be modest. If it's a bad grade, confess that you haven't studied. Do not say that you studied all night and did not pass the exam; also try to understand that you don't have to be perfect.
