Bras are one of the hardest items to pack when traveling. They can take up a lot of space in your suitcase, and if put away badly, you run the risk of deforming the cups or otherwise ruining their integrity. This is especially true for molded bras. The unmolded ones, on the other hand, are much less sensitive and easier to pack.
Steps
Before You Begin: Know Which Bras To Take Away
Step 1. Choose bras that match the one you're going to wear on them
Before choosing which bras to bring with you, you need to understand which dresses and shirts / t-shirts you will be wearing. Make sure the bras you choose are versatile enough to go with the clothes you take with you
- For versatile use, a soft nude bra will always do.
- When making soft-colored t-shirts, choose a soft flesh-colored bra. A white bra is also fine, but it will be slightly more visible.
- For black shirts / t-shirts and other dark shades, get black bras. Dark colors can fall out on light-colored bras.
- If you carry a dress that leaves the back or shoulders bare, you will need a strapless bra in a neutral color. Convertible bras are fine too, but you need to make sure you take the straps away too if you want to use them to their fullest.
- Shirts or T-shirts with a deep V-neckline should be accompanied by low-cut bras so that they are not visible. Similarly, high-necked shirts or sweaters should be accompanied by an opaque bra so that the chest is soft and without marks.
Step 2. Take enough away
Determine how many days you will be away and how many days you will be able to wear each of the bras you decide to wear. Make sure you have enough to rotate during the trip.
- As a general rule, you should plan on wearing a bra for two to three days of your trip. Delicate ones should be worn every one or two days.
- If you expect to be able to wash your laundry during your trip, make sure you bring enough bras to last until you think you can do the first washing, plus an extra one in case you have to delay.
- Always take more than one bra with you, even if you're only going to be away for a couple of days. You need to have more bras in case of unforeseen events, such as breaking a strap or an underwire.
- Plan to rotate the bras while you are away. If you wear one too often, you may wear it out.
Method 1 of 3: Method One: Put the Molded Bras in the Suitcase
Step 1. Keep bras last
Bras must be one of the last things to put away. Prepare a space on top of the clothes in the suitcase.
Measure the thickness of the bras once they are placed on top of each other. The space to be kept free must be able to contain them all. If you try to push bras into too small a gap, you could distort the cups
Step 2. Stack the bras on top of each other
Join them so that the cups are on top of each other. All bras should be kept open, not folded.
Do not fold bras one cup inside another if they are molded ones. By inverting one of the cups, you distort its shape. This could cause dents, bumps and deformation
Step 3. Fill the cups
Roll up some socks, tank tops or panties and fill them with the bra cup at the bottom
Fill the cups with enough material to fill them as much as possible. This will prevent the cup from folding in case it is pressed. Thus, you will protect the shape and longevity of the cups in the stack
Step 4. Protect bras from blunt objects
Keep bras in the suitcase away from materials that can bend, crush or cut them.
- You could put the bras stacked in a plastic bag or cover them with plasticized or waxed paper. This precaution is to prevent the velcro or zips from getting stuck in their material.
- Don't put anything heavy on top of your bras.
- It's a good idea to fold back the straps to prevent the hooks from getting stuck in other clothes or bras. Fold the straps and band back into the cup of your bra and over the one underneath. For the bra that sits at the bottom, fold the straps and the band between the cups and the material you filled them with.
Step 5. Get them out as soon as possible
You should take out the bras as soon as you reach your destination. Do not leave them in your suitcase during your stay.
- Keeping bras in a full suitcase for an extended time can lead to cup distortion even if you have taken all possible precautions in putting them away.
- Hang the bras on a handle, hook or hanger. Make sure you don't hang them between bulky items like bags or coats, otherwise you could crush the cups.
Method 2 of 3: Method Two: Put Unshaped Bras in Suitcase
Step 1. Slip one cup into the other
Fold each bra in half, reversing one cup so it fits into the other.
The cups of non-molded bras do not distort easily, so you should be able to twist them without doing any damage to their integrity or to the bra in general
Step 2. Close the hooks
Close the hooks of the band. Slip the straps into the cup of the bra once closed.
By doing this, you will prevent the hooks from sticking to other bras or dresses
Step 3. Stack the bras
Fold the bras one by one, then stack them together. Put one bra over the other so that the cups are inside each other.
Since cups are less delicate than molded bras, you don't have to fill them with other material to avoid squeezing
Step 4. Place bras in a protected space
If possible, put the bras in a separate compartment of the suitcase instead of putting them in the middle of the clothes.
Another possibility is to put the bras stacked in a plastic bag. Choose a sturdy bag, such as "freezer" bags that can be sealed or those found in grocery stores. At that point you can put the bag with the other clothes in the suitcase and they will be protected by zips, hooks, velcro and other similar threats
Step 5. Get them out as soon as possible
When you arrive at your destination, take your bras out of your suitcase and keep them out for as long as you are away.
- While it is not essential to take out non-molded bras than it is for molded ones, it is still preferable. Leaving any bra in a full suitcase for an extended time can damage the underwire and its integrity.
- You can hang the bras on a hook, hanger or handle. Avoid hanging them between heavy objects, though. While the cups of an unmolded bra are not easy to twist, they can still be damaged if squeezed brutally.
Method 3 of 3: Method Three: Place Bras in Separate Container
Step 1. Choose a container
It can be a normal box or a travel bag for bras, but in any case the container must be rigid.
- There are several bags available on the market that are specially designed to hold bras, but the best ones are bra-shaped, with hard cover and designed so that the bras lie flat and not folded.
- If you don't want to buy a travel bag for bras, you can use a rigid plastic or cardboard container. The container must be able to hold the bras hanging out and be large enough to also hold the cups without folding them.
Step 2. Stack the bras in the box
Stretch the bras out and put them on top of each other. The cups must be tucked one into the one of the bra above.
- When stacking molded bras, never fold one cup inside the other. This could cause dents, bumps and deformation in the cup you reverse, and the bra will no longer fit as well as it should.
- Fold up the straps and headband to prevent the hooks from catching inside the other bras. The straps of each bra are inserted between the cups of the bra they belong to and the one underneath.
- Many of the bra bags can hold one to six bras, depending on the size of the bag and bras. If you have a small cup, usually there are six; for larger ones, one or two can fit.
- If you choose to use a plastic or cardboard box, put as many bras in it as possible without squeezing them. Do not force them into it, otherwise you risk distorting the cups.
- Since there is no risk of crushing them when you put the bras in a separate container, you don't have to fill the cups with other material.
Step 3. Put the container in the empty suitcase
Put the full container in your empty suitcase, then put the rest of the clothes around it.
- Fill the spaces around the container as much as possible to prevent the bras from being tossed around in transit.
- You can take the bras out once they arrive, but if you have them in a separate container leaving plenty of room, there is less risk of them getting distorted. If so, you can keep them in the container throughout your stay without taking much risk.
