A full basketball court offers the luxury of official size and gives you the ability to install regulation baskets and lines. Building a basketball court takes a lot of space, because full size courts can be up to 28.6m long. Use these steps to build a basketball court.
Steps
Step 1. Determine the size and position of your field
Choose a relatively flat location so that you have less work to level it.
The dimensions of a FIBA regulation basketball court are 28.6m by 15.2m. The dimensions of many school camps are 25.6m by 15.2m. If you only want to create a half court, divide the length by half
Step 2. Purchase 2 basket supports for a regulation court
If you are only building a half court, buy only 1 basket.
Step 3. Mark the size of the field
Place stakes in all 4 corners.
Step 4. Level the playing surface
Remove everything except the dirt from the area bounded by the stakes. Remove rocks, sticks and grass. To level the area you will need to move the earth from the highest to the lowest areas before compacting it.
Step 5. Create a concrete base
Make sure the weather is dry before performing this step. When you have poured the concrete, you will have to wait at least 36 hours before using the field.
You will need to install the basket supports during this step. Each support must be positioned 30-60 cm deep and stabilized with concrete. The regulation height of a basketball hoop is 3.05 m from the iron to the ground
Step 6. Draw the main lines of the field
- Spray paint is a good solution, but it's hard to create straight lines without a stencil.
- The boundary line of the court should be 5-7.5cm thick and surround the entire court.
- The center line must run horizontally from one sideline to the other in the exact middle of the court.
- The free throw line is exactly 4.57m from the basket and is 3.65cm long.
- The free throw area is 3.7m by 5.8m.
Step 7. Draw the other lines
You will need to draw the three-point shooting line, the midfield circle and the areas.
