Headlock is a very effective submission technique. The best way to escape a headlock, as with many submission techniques, is to not get into it. When your opponent tries to grab you, you have to work hard to escape the grab. But be careful, getting out of a headlock the wrong way can lead to worse injuries than not being able to escape at all.
Steps
Step 1. If your opponent grabs you to the left, using his right arm, use your left arm to free yourself
If he's on the right, and he's using his left arm, you need to use the your right arm to release you.
Step 2. Usually, whoever grabs you with a headlock will have their head close to yours to be able to squeeze their arms as tightly as possible
Step 3. Turn your head towards your opponent
This way you prevent the possibility of suffocation.
Step 4. Distract him
Hit him in the groin, kick his legs, or pinch the back of his thigh.
Step 5. Put your middle finger under your opponent's nose
Push up and back to open the headlock.
Step 6. Don't do anything too fast or thoughtless, act slowly and decisively
Method 1 of 1: If the Person Is Behind You
Step 1. Stay calm as much as you can and breathe
Step 2. DO NOT try to slip away
You could hurt your neck.
Step 3. Try slowly to bring yourself back from an inclined position to an upright position
Step 4. If you are near a wall or something stiff, or at the corner of a ring or ropes, walk slowly until you reach it
Step 5. Try to force your opponent to slam into it
The grip on your neck should ease, and you may have a good chance to get out of the grip.

If the previous method doesn't work, try moving to change positions and bring yourself to a side headlock. So, try the steps outlined above.
Advice
- If you are in serious danger, try hitting your opponent's genital triangle or eyes. But don't do it if you are not in danger of life!
- Try to knock your opponent out by elbowing him in the pit of his stomach. In this way, whoever holds you in headlock will back off and try to recover their breath and energy and you will have an excellent opportunity to attack.
- Keep your chin attached to your body so your opponent can't try to strangle you.
- Plan your counterattacks or exit attempts so that you are ready at the right time.
- Stay calm as much as you can and breathe.
- Bend over and grab his legs, lifting them up. Your opponent will probably let go if he tries not to fall.
- Try changing positions and turning around to relieve the pressure on your airways, then use the opposite arm to check your opponent's pulse and move his arm away.
- You can also try punching your opponent in the ribs, and if you hit him in the right spot, he might let go.
- DO NOT attempt to slip away. You could hurt your neck.
- Learn to adapt to the situation; whether you are in a team or in another type of context, act in the way you think is most appropriate.
