In many countries, wild rabbits are becoming a problem and reducing their population would be good not only for the environment but also for the rabbits themselves. The European rabbit comes from the southern part of Europe and the first to export it as a food source were the Romans who brought them to the United Kingdom. The British unfortunately exported them to Australia and other places where rabbits have ended up becoming a plague. In the United States, a native breed was created, the "cotton tail".
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Method 2: Catching Rabbits with a hole
Step 1. Dig a large hole
The hole should be of various sizes, depending on the size of the rabbit you want to catch. The deeper it is, the less likely it is that the rabbit will escape.
Place the hole in the middle of the path or where you think rabbits can pass. If you don't do this, you will need to lure the rabbit into a trap using a lure
Step 2. Get sticks that are just a little bigger than the hole
The right amplitude is important. If it is too large, the trap will not work when the rabbit passes over it. If it is too small you will not be able to cover the hole. Take three or four sticks. Arrange them to cover the mouth of the hole.
Step 3. Add perpendicular twigs on top of the sticks
Try to make a sort of fence: three or four bigger sticks in one direction and many smaller ones in the other.
Step 4. Place some dried leaves in the center covering the sticks
Step 5. Cover the leaves with debris and moss trying to make the trap uniform to the environment
If it is mixed, the coverage varies accordingly. Try to arrange even drier material so that it doesn't look like you've moved the ground.
Step 6. Place a bait on the trap (optional)
Corn, carrots and other vegetables attract rabbits. Try to arrange the bait in the center so that the rabbit gets on it.
Step 7. Mark where you place the trap with red fabric and check every day
You must be able to find the trap quickly and without problems. Remember to check constantly so that if you catch a rabbit they don't suffer too much while they are trapped.
Method 2 of 2: Method 3: Catching Rabbits by Building a Mammal Trap
Step 1. Buy or find a live animal trap
It usually contains a door, a mechanism and a pulley. It can be found online or in food and feed stores. The use is for the capture of rabbits keeping them alive precisely.
Step 2. Find some food to put on the mechanism
Corn, carrots, vegetables and bread should be enough to attract the rabbits who will activate the trap by staying in it.
Place the food directly on the mechanism. If you place it incorrectly the rabbit could run away with a full belly and you would be left with a dry mouth
Step 3. Take the door and fix it by setting the trap
Follow the directions to mount it. Make sure the trap is activated by trying the mechanism with a long stick. If it does not activate, try to assemble it again.
Step 4. Check the trap frequently
Every rabbit shouldn't get hurt once trapped but try to check at least every day.
Step 5. Once caught, release the rabbit or hold it
Wear gloves if you take it. Although they are usually not dangerous, they may bite to free themselves.
Advice
- If you skin it you can use fur to make loafers as long as you don't catch at least two.
- Instead of looking for tracks, you could observe rabbits to find out where they go.
- If you skin it to eat, remember to always wear gloves, especially if you have cuts or hand infections. rabbits carry a disease called tulemaria which you may contract. Cook the meats well. They may contain worms and other parasites.
- When you approach a wild rabbit, it walks slowly without making any sudden movements that could scare it.
- Don't make any changes to your trap unless it works at all. A rabbit might smell and stay away from it.
