Ferrets are adorable and charming pets. Their only problem is the smell. However, with a little forethought, you can prevent your furry friend from smelling bad. Start with the first step to see how to do it.
Steps
Step 1. Pay attention to your ferret's diet
Ferrets are carnivores, so make sure you don't feed them things like corn, wheat, fruits, vegetables, juices, or sugar. Foods based on fish also considerably increase the strong smell of food and, therefore, of the ferret. Just because an envelope has a ferret on it or contains the food that the pet store fed your ferret does not mean that it offers your pet the correct odorless nutrition. Suitable food contains 30-40% protein and not less than 19% fat. A good diet will make him have well-formed droppings that won't smell much, plus it will give him a shiny coat, bright eyes, lots of energy and happiness.
Step 2. Clean the litter box
Your ferret's litter box needs to be cleaned daily. Make sure you remove a small amount of litter to make room for it. If the litter box smells noticeably like the rest of the cage, you may find some “little gifts” scattered all over the place rather than just making them in the litter box. The litter in the cage should be covered with pelleted or pressed paper. NEVER use hard clay or silicone litter as they may cause digestive problems for your ferret or get stuck in his throat. Also, don't use chipboard litter as it can cause breathing problems and won't help eliminate odors.
Step 3. Wash your bunk often
His cot or cot gets dirty just like your clothes and needs to be washed. This will also greatly reduce the smell of the cage. Use warm water and an odorless detergent, as ferrets may be allergic.
Step 4. Limit the bathroom
Contrary to popular belief, the ferret does not need to be bathed often. The smell he gives off comes from the oil on his skin. If you wash your dog often with a special shampoo it could irritate his skin and cause glandular problems, making him smell even more. If your ferret sleeps in a dirty litter box or rolls around in some foul-smelling nondescript substance you should give him a bath. Therefore, the use of a specific shampoo, lukewarm water, which seems cold to them, and a balm for ferrets is recommended to decrease the humidity on his skin. Other pet cleaners are fine, but beware of any ferret allergies.
Step 5. Get an interior deodorant
There are some products on the market that can decrease your ferret friend's smell. If you've done all of the above, you won't need these products, but they don't work that well anyway. Some people have noticed that these products cause diarrhea in the ferret. You should wait a few weeks, after buying it, to try it out, to notice any changes in your ferret.
Step 6. Try a ferret spray or deodorant
Some have a great vanilla or melon smell and really help cover up the animal's odor. If you have followed all the advice listed so far you will not need it. Many ferrets hate being sprayed.
Step 7. Make your ferret smell better than a wet dog or a dirty cat litter box

- Don't use your own shampoo, as your ferret will start scrubbing all over to get rid of the smell.
- Smells can also come from the house itself. Keeping your home clean, including the walls, corners, and upholstery it rubs on, also helps reduce odor.
- Ferret puppies have a much stronger smell that fades to a more muted, musky-like smell as they grow.
