It is normal to feel uncomfortable when you have unwanted hair on your upper lip or between your eyebrows. There are many ways to get rid of unwanted facial hair, including waxing and shaving, but using a depilatory cream is perhaps one of the fastest, easiest and least painful options. Before using this product on your face, do a test on a small spot on your skin: wash it, apply the cream and then remove it.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Test the Product on the Skin and Wash the Face
Step 1. Read the product label
Although the process may seem simple and trivial, it is important to read the instructions and make sure you understand them perfectly before using the cream. Each brand has slightly different indications.
- Additionally, this will allow you to learn more about the potential side effects and also check the ingredients list to make sure you are not allergic to any of them.
- Make sure the cream is designed for the face. Not all hair removal creams are meant to be used on this area.
- You can also look for a cream that is specifically designed for the unwanted hair you intend to remove, such as those found in the brow area or mustache.
Step 2. Test a limited area of the skin
It is good to try the product on a small area of the skin before using more, especially if you have never used it before. Follow the instructions and apply the cream to a very small area of the jaw. If after 24 hours you do not notice any allergic reactions or irritation, it is likely that the product is safe to use on your face.
Step 3. Wash your face
The face should be dry and clean when applying the cream. To wash it properly, moisten it with warm water, apply a cleanser, and then exfoliate the skin. Finally, rinse it off with cold water and pat it dry with a clean towel.
Part 2 of 3: Apply the Cream
Step 1. Apply the cream to facial hair with the special spatula
When you buy a depilatory cream, the kit usually includes a specific spatula for applying the product. Squeeze some cream onto the curved end of the spatula. Carefully coat any hair you intend to remove by applying a thick layer of cream.
- For best results, apply the cream when you get out of the shower or just before you finish washing.
- If you don't have a spatula, you can also apply it with your fingers or a cotton swab.
- If you use the cream to remove unwanted hair in the eyebrow area, first outline it with a special pencil. Then, apply the cream to the hairs that are outside the outline you drew.
Step 2. Wash your hands immediately
If you run out of cream on your hands, it is best to wash them immediately after applying it. Quickly wash them with warm soapy water, then pat them dry with a clean towel.
Step 3. Let the cream sit for 5 minutes
Most brands expect a shutter speed of about 5 minutes. However, some brands are different, so be sure to check the label. Plus, set an alarm on your phone or use a kitchen timer so you don't lose track of time.
- Let it sit for a few more minutes if you have thick hair.
- Do not leave it on for more than 10 minutes.
Part 3 of 3: Remove the Cream
Step 1. Check if the hairs go away
Use a spatula or washcloth to remove a very small amount of cream. Take a good look at the area to make sure the hair has had enough time to dissolve.
Step 2. Remove the cream with a sponge or wet wipe
Once the hair has dissolved, moisten a sponge or washcloth with warm water and gently remove all the cream. At the end of the procedure, wash the sponge or towel by hand to remove any residue of cream and hair, then let it dry on a bathroom cabinet.
Step 3. Rinse your face with cold water
Finally, rinse your face with cold tap water to make sure there is no hair left on your skin. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Step 4. Apply a moisturizer
To prevent the skin from drying or irritating, it is good to apply a moisturizing face lotion immediately after rinsing. Massage the cream into the skin in a circular motion. Apply the product all over your face, but spend a little more time on the area you have shaved.
If you notice redness, itching, cracking or other signs typical of severe skin irritation, consult a dermatologist and avoid using this product
Warnings
