The highlights give volume and brightness to the hair, but we can not always afford to go to the hairdresser. Fortunately, there are many ways to achieve the same result at home as well. These options will save you a lot of money; Plus, since you'll only use natural ingredients, they will damage your hair less.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Essential Oil Formula for a Mild Result
Step 1. Get all the ingredients you need
To make this lightening spray, you need dried chamomile flowers and three varieties of essential oils: cinnamon, lemon, and cassia. In addition, you must have a large tureen and a dark glass spray bottle available. The exact doses for each ingredient are as follows:
- 1/2 cup of dried chamomile flowers;
- 30-40 drops of cinnamon essential oil;
- 30-40 drops of lemon essential oil;
- 15-20 drops of cassia essential oil.
Step 2. Bring 240ml of water to a boil, then pour it over the chamomile flowers
Place the flowers in a large bowl, then submerge them with the boiling water. Leave them to infuse until the water reaches room temperature (about 30 minutes).
- Once the indicated time has elapsed, filter the water to remove the flowers.
- You can throw them away, or use them to make compost.
Step 3. Add essential oils
After removing the chamomile flowers, you can pour the essential oils of cinnamon, lemon and cassia directly into the water inside the bowl. Mix using a wooden spoon or another non-reactive material.
Optional: Add 2 teaspoons of propylene glycol to the water. It is a diluent that serves to prevent the ingredients from separating
Step 4. Pour the mixture into a dark glass spray bottle
Make sure it is empty and perfectly clean. If possible, pour with the help of a funnel to avoid dispersion.
It is important that the container is made of dark glass to protect the essential oils from light, which causes them to deteriorate and lose their effectiveness
Step 5. Spray the mixture into your hair evenly before exposing it to sunlight
Apply it to wet hair, then comb it carefully to distribute the ingredients evenly. Use the lightening spray on your hair whenever you plan to spend some time in the sun.
- The more time you spend in the sun with the mixture spread over your hair, the more intense and visible the result will be.
- This method is very gentle and lightens the hair gradually.
Step 6. Store the leftover mixture in a cool place, away from sunlight
By keeping the bottle in the dark, you will prevent the ingredients from losing their effectiveness. Before each new application, shake the container vigorously.
Method 2 of 4: Apple Cider Vinegar Formula for Brown and Red Hair
Step 1. Get all the ingredients you need
This lightening spray has a very simple formula, which only requires two ingredients: distilled water and apple cider vinegar. It works best on red, brown and light brown hair, lightening it only slightly. As this is a very delicate blend, you will likely need to reapply it several times before you see any results. In addition to distilled water and vinegar, you need to get a spray bottle with a capacity of 250ml. The exact doses for each ingredient are as follows:
- 1 tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar (unpasteurized);
- 240 ml of distilled water.
Step 2. Measure the ingredients, then pour them into the spray bottle
Make sure it is empty and perfectly clean. Once full, apply the sprayer to close it, then shake it vigorously to mix the contents.
Check that you have correctly blocked the opening of the bottle before shaking it, to avoid confusion
Step 3. Spray the mixture evenly on damp hair, then let it sit for 30 minutes
Once applied to the hair, it is advisable to use a fine-toothed comb to distribute it even more evenly.
Step 4. Rinse your hair to get rid of the vinegar, then style it as usual
The apple cider vinegar will have made them soft and silky. The lightening effect caused by this formula is very natural; in addition, apple cider vinegar is quite mild and can also be used frequently.
Store the spray bottle in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Before each new application, shake it vigorously to mix the ingredients again
Method 3 of 4: Lemon Juice and Chamomile Formula
Step 1. Get all the ingredients you need
To prepare this lightening spray you need an infusion of chamomile, lemon juice, cinnamon, honey and olive oil. In addition, you must have a dark glass spray bottle with a capacity of approximately 400ml. The exact doses for each ingredient are as follows:
- 1 sachet of chamomile;
- 120 ml of lemon juice (freshly squeezed);
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon;
- 1 teaspoon of honey;
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil.
Step 2. Bring 240ml of water to a boil, then pour it over the chamomile tea bag
Place the sachet in a cup, then submerge it with the boiling water (just as if you wanted to make yourself a cup of chamomile tea). Leave the sachet to infuse until the water reaches room temperature - this will take approximately 30 minutes.
When the water has cooled, discard the chamomile tea bag
Step 3. Pour all the ingredients into the spray bottle, including the chamomile tea
Make sure it is empty and perfectly clean. The infusion will have to fill it about halfway, after which you will need to measure and add 120 ml of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of olive oil.
- If you prefer, you can replace olive oil with coconut oil, the doses do not change.
- If, in addition to lightening your hair, you want to get some beach waves, you can also add ½ teaspoon of sea salt. The "beach waves" are now a must of the summer season!
- By heating the honey in the microwave for a few seconds, you will be able to make it more liquid and easier to work with.
Step 4. Blend the ingredients
Once you have them all in the bottle, you can attach the sprayer to seal it. Now shake it vigorously to mix the contents. To avoid confusion, check that you have properly blocked the opening of the bottle before shaking it.
Step 5. Spray a generous amount of mixture on damp hair, then expose it to sunlight
Once applied to the hair, it is advisable to use a fine-toothed comb to distribute it, so that the lightening effect is perfectly homogeneous.
For an "ombre" effect, spray the mixture only on the ends of the hair. For even more contrast, you can distribute it all over the lower half of the hair
Step 6. Store the leftover mix in the refrigerator
This lightening formula lasts for about 3-4 days, as long as it is kept cold. During this time, you will be able to reapply it every time you intend to re-bathe in the sun.
Method 4 of 4: Hydrogen Peroxide Formula for Intense Lightening
Step 1. Get all the ingredients you need
To make this lightening spray, you need hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide), water, lemon juice and a concentrated chamomile tea. In addition, you must have a dark glass spray bottle with a capacity of approximately 400ml. The exact doses for each ingredient are as follows:
- 120 ml of water;
- 60 ml of hydrogen peroxide;
- 60 ml of lemon juice;
- 120 ml of concentrated chamomile infusion.
Step 2. Bring 120ml of water to a boil, then pour it over the chamomile tea bag
Put the sachet in a cup, then submerge it with the boiling water, just as if you wanted to make yourself a cup of chamomile tea. Leave the sachet to infuse until the water reaches room temperature, having used little water and a prolonged infusion time you will get a concentrated infusion.
- It will take about 30 minutes for the water to reach room temperature.
- When the water has cooled, discard the chamomile tea bag.
Step 3. Pour all the ingredients into the spray bottle, including the chamomile tea
Make sure the container is empty and perfectly clean. In addition to the freshly made infusion, you will need to dose and add 60 ml of hydrogen peroxide, 60 ml of lemon juice and 120 ml of water. If possible, pour with the help of a funnel to avoid dispersion.
- Once all the ingredients are poured, mix them gently to mix them.
- Attach the sprayer to the neck of the bottle to seal it.
Step 4. Test the lightening formula on a section of hair
Since this blend contains hydrogen peroxide, it is best to test it on a small section of hair before spreading it all over the hair. Spray a small amount of it on a thin strand located behind the nape of the neck.
- Before applying the formula all over your hair, wait until you see the result to make sure you like it.
- If you have black or dark brown hair, the highlights may be more auburn than blonde.
Step 5. Spray the mixture on wet hair
After washing and nourishing them with shampoo and conditioner, pat them briefly with a towel, then apply the lightening spray evenly. Use a fine-toothed comb to distribute the mixture even more evenly, then blow dry your hair as usual. It will take several applications to see the desired results.
- To increase the lightening effect of hydrogen peroxide, you can expose your hair to the sun for 30 minutes after spraying the mixture. Be cautious, however, as peroxide damages your hair and the sun intensifies this negative effect.
- The heat from a hairdryer or other styling tools also allows for faster results.
- Store the spray bottle in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Before each new application, shake it vigorously to mix the ingredients well.
