Whatever the reason for bleaching facial hair, you will find below a guide on how to do it. There are a few reasons why you may need a discoloration: if you have dark hair and don't have time to remove it with cotton thread, if you don't want to remove your mustache (women), if you have olive or pale skin, or if you want to go from a fake blonde to a more natural one.
Steps
Step 1. Buy bleaching products
Usually the box looks like those of hair dyes, only the wording "facial hair bleacher" changes. It is important to make sure that it is specific for facial hair, as the hair dye would be too aggressive on the skin, as the facial hair is very fine and the skin is delicate. Once you have bought the product you will see that in the box there are a bag of powder and a bottle of liquid. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the chemicals (read warnings).
Step 2. Get ready
Put on a shirt that you no longer use like this, you don't have to worry about ruining it. In the box you will also find a pair of gloves, and if they are not there, buy them and put them on. Pour some bleaching powder into a plastic or glass container and then pour the liquid into it. Do not use too much liquid, the right consistency should be creamy. The final compound may change color from white to bluish, but this is absolutely normal.
Step 3. For this you will need a large makeup brush or a small piece of cardboard or plastic whose length should be 2 or 3 times its width
This will help you spread the mixture in the desired areas. With the brush, take a small amount of the mixture and start spreading it on your face, but first of all take a look at the time you started the process.
Step 4. Always start with the mustache area, because the hair on the upper lip is usually a little thicker than that of the other areas of the face
Make sure that the amount of cream you use in this area is greater than the others. If you will be bleaching the entire face, cover the hair line around the forehead as well.
Step 5. Smear small amounts on the rest of the face avoiding the areas around the eyes, where the skin is very delicate and the dye could damage them
Unless you want to bleach your brows too, avoid this area as well. It is not very wise to bleach your eyebrows, but if you are going to do it anyway, it is better at another time as the eyebrow hairs are thick and have a longer shutter speed.
Step 6. You may read on the instructions that you need to keep the bleaching cream for 15-20 minutes, but it is wrong as it damages the skin and inflames it
The whole process should not exceed 10 minutes, and once 7 minutes pass, remove some to verify that it is working. Check the first area where you applied the product.
Step 7. If the area you control is already blond, take some cotton pads (the ones to remove make-up), and wet them using lukewarm water (be careful not to use too cold / hot water)
Remove the product. Start with the areas where you applied the cream first. If you are working in the area under the eyes, rub downwards, and conversely, if you are working in the upper part, remove the product by rubbing upwards. Be careful because the product is very harmful if it accidentally gets into the eyes.
Step 8. After removing all of the product, wash your face
First, rinse with warm water and then use a neutral pH soap or just a bar of soap.
Step 9. Use a toner to help moisturize and balance the skin and achieve a fresh look
When applying the toner, avoid areas under the eyes.
Advice
- There are dozens of bleaches, some are good, others very aggressive to the skin. To find good ones, you will have to do a little research and test some brands, in any case it is always better to start with trusted brands and, once you have found the right one, do not change.
- After the procedure, some areas of the face may become red: they will return to normal in a few minutes, don't worry unless it hurts.
- If you have olive skin, the discoloration is perfect as it will give your skin a fresh undertone.
- If the time is up and there are non-discolored areas, allow a few days to pass and reapply the product in the specific areas.
- The bleaching whitens / browns the hair, it does not remove it.
- If you are not sure what you are doing, call a beauty center and ask them to accompany you through the various steps. Obviously someone will refuse, but try.
- Some people discolor other areas, such as hair on the chest, phalanges, or breasts. If you are planning to discolor your breasts and the area around your nipples, you will need a professional consultation as it could be harmful.
- Once the new roots grow back (after about 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the type of hair) you will need to bleach the hair again. People will start to notice this, especially if you have very dark hair. You will have to constantly buy the bleaching cream!
- Sometimes you will feel a slight burning sensation at some point during the process. If it bothers you particularly, try removing some of the cream in that spot, and if it continues to burn, remove it completely.
Warnings
- Do not exceed 10 minutes.
- If you feel a strong sting from the first application, remove the product immediately and wash your face, it means that it is not good for your skin.
- Do not expose yourself to the sun immediately after bleaching, it is best to do it on a cold and cloudy day, and do not expose yourself to the sun for the next 24 hours; if you go on vacation, be sure to bleach yourself a few days before.
- If you are allergic to any chemicals, then do not use the product. Read the label carefully! The ingredients are usually these: "Bleaching powder: Talc, Magnesium Carbonate, Sodium Silicate, Ammonium Persulifate". "Oxygenating Cream [the liquid from the bottle]: Aqua, Hydrogen Peroxide, Loureth-3, Ceteareth-20, Tetrasodium EDTA, Phenacetin B. P".
- 48 hours before the procedure, test the product on a small area of the skin, preferably on the face. This is to make sure you are not allergic to the product.
- Bleaching your eyebrows could cause blindness, if you really want to do it, it's best to ask for professional assistance.
