The width, or width, of the elbow is a factor to consider in determining your body build. Along with height, it can be used to figure out what your ideal weight should be. You can do this measurement yourself, but it's easier to ask a friend to help you.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Get the Right Tools
Step 1. Get a tape measure or ruler
Step 2. Ask a friend to help you measure your elbow if you want the result to be more accurate
Step 3. Stand in front of a mirror if you want to measure yourself, so you can see if you are in the correct posture
Part 2 of 3: Measure the Elbow Width
Step 1. Stand up
Raise your dominant arm and extend it fully in front of you. It should assume a horizontal position and parallel to the ground.
Step 2. Bend the elbow
The forearm should create a 90 ° C angle with the thumb, pointing towards the face. The upper arm should remain in the same position.
Step 3. Open your thumb and forefinger as if you were to pinch something
Place the thumb on the inside of the elbow bone, while the index finger goes on the outside.
- The two fingers resting on the elbow should be at approximately the same height.
- If you can, use a caliper instead of your fingers for a more accurate measurement. Keep the gauge at a 45 ° C angle to the elbow.
Step 4. Pinch lightly, so that the measurement is close to the skin, but do not press it
Step 5. Keep the same distance between your thumb and forefinger
Place your thumb on the leading edge of the ruler or measuring tape.
Step 6. Calculate the distance between your thumb and forefinger to the nearest tenth to one centimeter
This will be the width of the elbow.
Part 3 of 3: Using a Body Constitution Calculator
Step 1. Find an online body build calculator
Just type "body build calculator" into a good search engine and click on one of the first links.
Step 2. If necessary, indicate that you prefer the measurement to be done in the metric system, not the one used in the United States
Step 3. Select your gender
Step 4. Enter the elbow width
Step 5. Enter the height
Once all the fields have been filled in, click on "Calculate": the form will be updated.
Step 6. Read the results to find out if you have thin, medium or strong bone structure
You will also be told what your ideal weight should be.
