If you have a green thumb, you can save a lot of time by starting to grow your plants indoors in a place that is warm and not subject to freezing temperatures. You have the option to choose from a wide variety of seeds, normally available at nurseries, since it is cheaper to buy plants (and seeds) than vegetables already grown in pots. If you have been infected with the gardening virus, you will soon feel the urge to grow tomatoes or basil starting from seeds. Building the pots will be a very simple and quick operation. Keep in mind that they are also biodegradable!
Steps
Step 1. Start with a sheet of newspaper
Step 2. Cut it in half
Cut out several pieces at the same time, to save time, but you will need to use only one sheet or single layer for each vase.
Step 3. Cut it in half again, dividing it into four pieces
Step 4. Take a small round container, similar to a spice jar
Roll the paper inside, leaving about 2.5 cm of protrusion at one end, which you will fold back to make the bottom. Do not roll it too tightly, otherwise it will be difficult to get the jar out later.
Step 5. Fold the bottom, as if you were wrapping a gift
Step 6. Close the bottom with masking tape
Use masking tape or biodegradable tape if you can find it.
Step 7. Take out the jar
Turn the paper cylinder, placing the opening facing up, and fold the edges of the top inward. Then, fold them again to give stability and shorten the pot.
Step 8. Repeat
Make as many pots as you need to plant your seeds.
When it comes time to move the seedlings into the flower beds, you can insert them directly into the ground leaving them in the paper jars (just remove the masking tape first). Also, before planting them, be sure to tear off and open the underside
Advice
- To make pots of different sizes, use jars of various sizes.
- Make sure the seedlings are sturdy enough before transplanting them outdoors.
- An alternative to using masking tape is to use a mixture of water and flour, letting it dry overnight.
