Once adolescence has begun, it is fun to redecorate the bedroom to reflect the evolution of one's style and interests. A small bedroom is a real challenge: you don't have a lot of space, so the risk of finding yourself with a jumble of furniture and decorations is always around the corner. However, it is possible to renovate a small room and make it optically larger. Find out how to use organizational techniques, colors and furniture to transform it into a beautiful bedroom, perfect for a teenager.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Clean and Rearrange
Step 1. Throw away unnecessary things
Just get rid of everything you don't want or need to bring the room back to life and immediately make it bigger. Consider the clothes you no longer wear, the toys that you are tired of, or the items that no longer fit in your room.
- Try using four boxes to organize the items you have in your room. Divide them into the following categories: things to throw away, to give away, to keep or to move. Try to throw away or give away as much as you can, move items you think are more appropriate for other spaces, and finally put things back in place.
- Consider whether you can store some items in other rooms in the house. Can you put all the clothes from other seasons in an empty closet or basement? Can you give away toys or clothes you no longer use to your little sister or a neighbor?
Step 2. Organize the room with cute boxes and dressers
To facilitate organization and categorization, use colored containers: they will decorate the environment and be practical at the same time.
- Try buying clothes boxes that fit in your closet or hanging storage, then dedicate each container or shelf to a specific category: socks, belts, underwear, and so on. On the desk you can put colored boxes, letter trays, pen holders and other containers for stationery or art supplies.
- It is not always necessary to buy containers. You can create them yourself by wrapping very common boxes, jars or baskets with wrapping paper or fabric, so as to embellish them without too much effort.
- You can also take advantage of the back of the door. Attach hooks, hangers, or sticks for clothes, jewelry and accessories to it.
Step 3. Clean
Before repainting or rearranging your room, clean and tidy it up. This will help you to better visualize the changes, but also to move furniture and other items more easily.
- If you plan to repaint, empty the room completely. If you just have to rearrange and furnish it, bring out only the small items so you can move the furniture more easily.
- Remove smaller items from surfaces such as tables, shelves, or bedside tables so they don't get in your way and don't break when you tidy up. You will also be able to dust and clean surfaces more easily, and you will also be able to think better about how to rearrange smaller objects.
Method 2 of 3: Repaint and Redecorate
Step 1. If you plan to repaint, choose a light or neutral color to make the space optically larger and airier
Try to use different tones of the same color for walls, finishes and other details.
- Use a more vibrant color for the ceiling - it will draw the eye vertically and make the room appear taller.
- Paint two opposite walls a slightly different color to give the room a touch of originality and make it appear longer.
Step 2. Choose a large rug:
will make the room seem more spacious. Go for a light color or a magnifying pattern to create a sense of greater openness.
- Try a striped rug to optically enlarge the room. Place it so that the lines follow the same direction as the longest part of the room.
- If you have well-kept light carpet or parquet, you won't need the carpet - the room will still seem larger. Instead, a dark or neglected floor can be enhanced with a large, light-colored carpet.
Step 3. Decorate the bed with blankets and pillows to make it look new and comfortable
To create a cozy place to sleep and relax, layer several blankets and use colorful pillows.
- Use lots of decorations to make the bed become the focal point of the room, while otherwise go for a more minimalist decor. This will draw attention to the bed and make the room seem larger.
- If you don't have a sofa bed, arrange pillows and blankets in the morning to turn the bed into a sofa and have more seating during the day. In the evening, turn it back into a bed. So you won't need additional chairs or sofas.
Step 4. Incorporate natural light
Keep the windows open to let in natural light: the room will immediately become more beautiful and spacious. Add mirrors and different light sources to brighten the room in the evening or when natural light is scarce.
- Use curtains the same color as the walls or completely transparent. April by day to let in the light.
- Small and large mirror system to reflect light and make the space more airy. Use different light sources, such as lamps, light chains or recessed spotlights, to create a bright and welcoming environment.
Step 5. Create a dedicated space to dress up:
it can give an extra touch of femininity to your room. Choose a spot that is well lit (for example next to the window) and with light walls.
- Place the closet in this part of the room.
- Put a full length mirror right next to the closet.
- See if you can find a dressmaker's mannequin online. You can dress him in a nice suit to show that you use this part of the room to dress.
Step 6. Hang photos on Christmas lights
Pictures of friends and relatives can add a touch of uniqueness to the room. Buy some Christmas lights and paper clips (clothespins will work too). Choose the photographs you want to display.
- Hang the lights by creating a series of rows in the place of the room you prefer.
- Hang photos between lights. You will see that your room will immediately become more beautiful and original.
Step 7. Hang the sunglasses on a hanger
Do you collect sunglasses? Buy a colorful coat hanger and attach it wherever you want, for example on the wardrobe handle, then arrange all your sunglasses on the rod.
- You can also dye a white hanger any color you want.
- Around you can find hangers with nice designs, for example with polka dots.
Step 8. Choose custom decorations
Take a trip to the mall and buy items that reflect your style.
- Do you like a certain band? Look for a poster of his. What is your favorite movie? Look for the poster.
- Look for stickers with phrases that reflect you - you can stick them to a bulletin board and place it on your desk.
- You can also look for lamps, rugs and cushions in a color or with a print that you like.
Method 3 of 3: Move or Change Furniture
Step 1. Move the furniture
You can renovate the room without having to buy anything: just change the arrangement of the furniture. You can also make it look bigger by using the bare minimum and placing items strategically.
- Lean the furniture against the walls to open up the space. If possible, however, avoid them touching each other so that the room does not seem too full.
- To make the most of the space and at the same time make the room seem larger, you can try arranging the furniture diagonally in the corners of the room. With this arrangement, you will have the opportunity to use the empty spaces and corners behind the furniture to store something.
Step 2. Choose multipurpose furniture with storage space
Optimize the space and functionality of the room by using furniture with internal or underlying spaces that allow you to store objects. Make the bed or sofa do double duty.
- If you can buy new furniture, look for items like a storage ottoman or a bed with drawers. You can also buy a loft bed - it's similar to a bunk bed, but the space underneath allows you to accommodate other furniture, such as a desk, chest of drawers, chair, and so on.
- If you can't buy new furniture, use the space under the bed to store boxes and baskets, tuck items under a table or desk, or use a chest to sit and store things.
Step 3. Try the shelves instead of the bookshelves
If possible, take advantage of this solution to have a larger room (you will arrange the objects vertically, so they will clutter less) and trendy. Prefer classic and cube shelves to bulky bookcases and cabinets.
- Try using cubes of different sizes on the same wall: it will be an original way to store objects next to the bed or desk.
- If you don't have regular or cube shelves, try dyeing a wooden crate your favorite color, then hang it on the wall for easy and practical storage.
