If you need to dispose of waste and there is no place available nearby to do so, you probably need an incinerator.

Steps

Need barrel Step 1
Need barrel Step 1

Step 1. To make an incinerator you need a drum

Use a 200-liter metal one. You can often find them for free or at a good price, at construction or car demolition companies.

Open top Step 2

Step 2. One of the bottoms of the barrel, which will be the top, must be open

If the keg has a lid, remove it. If it is sealed, you will need to open it. Use a reciprocating saw to do this, otherwise a power saw with a metal blade. Use ear protection, you'll make a lot of noise!

Turn up side down Step 3

Step 3. After opening the top, turn the keg upside down

Make holes in the bottom of the barrel using a hammer and chisel or a drill or something similar. Make holes along the sides as well. Don't overdo it or you'll weaken the stem.

Make cover Step 4

Step 4. Using wire mesh or something similar, make a cover for the keg

So you'll keep sparks and ash at bay.

Few larger holes Step 5

Step 5. Some like to make large holes in the bottom that act as vents to provide oxygen to the fire

They are not necessary but certainly efficient.

Let it burn Step 6

Step 6. Put the trash in the keg, use a gas lighter or fireplace matches to light it, put the cover on and let it burn

Advice

  • Sometimes, the ashes are used as organic compost in the waste recycling bins, thus safeguarding the environment.
  • Check with the local authorities (police, fire brigade, etc.) if you need a permit for an incinerator.
  • Stay safe.

Warnings

  • Do not burn waste without the cover - ashes and sparks could start the fire in unwanted places.
  • Remove weed and debris that are 3 to 5 meters from the stem.
  • Do not burn plastic, metals or other materials in the drum. This is harmful to the environment and dirties the incinerator.
  • Be careful when cutting one of the bottom of the keg, it may have contained liquid fuel.
  • Do not touch the keg while burning the waste, it burns!
