Artificial snow is very useful for arts and crafts projects and when you need to organize an event with a winter theme, such as a school play or end-of-year party. There are several ways to create it, some of which are covered in this article.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Simple Fake Snow

Step 1. Tear off the cotton wool

Take some cotton balls between your fingers and stretch them to tear them into wisps of snow. Arrange them to form a snowy field in your craft project or reshape them to make miniature snowmen.

Step 2. Imitate falling snowflakes with washing powder or instant puree flakes

You can make the video of a soft heavy snowfall by dropping these products in front of the camera lens.

This method also works for ground snow. To make it even more realistic, mix 360g of flake product with 320ml of liquid laundry starch, add several drops of blue food coloring and glitter

Step 3. Make holes in the paper

Take a blank sheet of paper and punch it with an office hole punch. Finally, use the white circles to recreate the snow. For a nice effect, drop them in front of a running fan.

Step 4. Add fake snow to the glass ball

To fill the glass ball, pour glycerin and a few polystyrene balls into it. You can replace the latter with glitter or small beads.

Step 5. Make a shimmer glaze for small art projects

Mix 50 g of table salt with the same amount of talc. Spray the surface with spray glue or spread normal white glue where you want the "snow" to adhere. Sprinkle the powder mixture on the still wet glue and wait for it to dry. Turn the object over to remove excess "snow".

Step 6. Mix flour or baking soda with water

Take the powder product and add a small spoonful of water at a time, mixing everything with a fork. When you've got some sort of paste, use it to blanket the ground for a small winter scene. You can also shape this snow into hills and ski slopes using your hands. When you are done sprinkle everything with more flour.

Method 2 of 2: Realistic Artificial Snow

Step 1. Mix the sodium polyacrylate with water

Cut a disposable diaper and remove the white granules that are inside; these are sodium polyacrylate. You can also buy this product in granules or powder at a garden center, in the area dedicated to soil treatment. The powder allows you to obtain a soft snow, while with the granules you create a more "muddy" product. Add a little water at a time until the snow reaches the desired consistency.

  • You will get a more realistic result if you put the mixture in the freezer.
  • If the mixture dries, add more water; if you prefer a drier mixture, reduce the amount of liquid and add salt.

Step 2. Mix crushed ice with white paint

This type of snow melts quickly, so it is only suitable in cold environments. Pour the crushed ice into a large bowl and then mix in some white paint. Slowly add water until the "snow" reaches the consistency you want.

Step 3. Make some salt crystals

With a cup of water and some string, you can "grow" your own salt crystals. The longer you leave the string in the water, the larger the crystals will be. Eventually, you can arrange them to create shimmering snowdrifts.

Step 4. Paint the surface

You can use paint to give the impression that the area is covered in snow. Dip an old paintbrush (of any type) into the white paint. Place your thumb on the bristles facing them towards the object to be colored. Rub the bristles to "sprinkle" the color onto the surface.
