Step 1. Decide your style of play - this is important, as others will get an idea of you as a duelist based on your style

Step 2. Choose your deck type - one themed, or one made up of a specific set of cards
Never make one with too many random cards, otherwise you won't be able to use combinations effectively. Also make sure you have a deck with around 40 cards - you should have at least 42.
The best decks focus on an archetype - a group of cards with similar names and mechanics that support each other. Decks that focus only on one attribute or type are not very good. Not even those with too many archetypes, although some may combine better than others
Step 3. Choose your monsters
Each deck should have at least 12-18, but the number can vary based on the deck you play with. Use low-level monsters that support your archetype and have useful effects in your deck. Many decks don't use regular monsters, since they aren't capable of doing much on their own, but they offer good support and are included in specially created decks based on their presence.
Step 4. Check the quantity - you should have:
- LV 1-4: about 12
- LV 5-6: about 4
- LV 7 and beyond: never more than two, depending on the deck. Some decks can and should consist entirely of high-level monsters. In fact, Evil decks are arcane-type and consist of only high-level monsters, with the two main ones at level ten. They are easy to summon because they only need non-malign forms and a field spell.
Step 5. Choose your spells
Many decks contain around 12-15. About a third of these spells in your deck should consist of combos and support cards for your monsters. The rest should consist of basic elements and a few other favorite cards. Add them to your list once you decide which ones.
Step 6. Choose your traps - ten, no more, no less, for any type of deck
The only exception is for decks that rely on traps, such as those made up of many weak monsters. Of these traps, three to five should serve as support for your deck type, and the rest should consist of core cards like Mirror Force, Dimensional Prison, and Endless Trap Hole.

Step 7. Prepare your Extra Deck
Many decks can use Xyz monsters. If yours contains at least 3 monsters of a certain level that you can easily call, you can add a pair of Xyz monsters of the same level. The Synchro and Fusion monsters are more specialized. Synchros can be added if you have at least one tuner monster; Fusion monsters are only used in specialized decks built around them.
Step 8. Take out the cards and make sure they work well together
You don't need to have good cards if they don't go well together. List the cards you need to upgrade your deck and make sure you buy them all. Observe the cards played by your usual opponent. Also add some generic cards to your spare deck to use between duels.
Step 9. Buy the cards
Perfect, your next move will be to get the cards you need. Go to the shops near you and see if you can make any deals by exchanging sets of cards or single cards.
Step 10. Start playing with friends and players in your area to have fun, to learn how to master your deck and to identify your weaknesses
After playing a few games, it's time to fix your deck's weaknesses and take advantage of its strengths by adding new support cards. During this procedure, you should have discarded at least five cards and replaced them with more useful ones.
Step 11. Refrain from using prohibited cards
Some examples are Gracious Charity and Amphora of Greed. These cards are known to be too powerful and would make your deck a cheating deck. These cards could also lead you to argue with other duelists.

Step 12. Update your deck

- Some cards are great, but if you're not sure how to use them right away, keep them in your reserve deck until you have properly studied your opponents' tactics. For example, "Ban" can dismantle many strategies, but if you don't know what to ban, it could be completely useless.
- If you want your deck to stand out from the others or want it to increase in value, invest time and money in the cards that are listed as first edition (bottom right corner of the card there is a gold foil and has "1st edition "printed under the photo on the card).
