Correctly applying the adhesive to the denture is very important to feel confident and smile or eat without feeling discomfort. Even when the dentures are the ideal size, it is still important to use an appropriate adhesive to prevent them from slipping or other embarrassing situations from occurring. Pay close attention to the amount of adhesive and apply the product in strategic points along the area where the prosthesis comes into contact with the gums.
Steps
Step 1. Take a small amount of adhesive from the package
For most brands, it is sufficient to squeeze the tube to obtain a small amount of glue as big as the eraser found on the pencils. Carefully apply this small amount by dabbing it in a single area in the center of the denture groove. Do not try to smear the adhesive.
Step 2. Repeat the process by taking another similar dose of adhesive and placing it near the left end of the groove
Finally apply a third equal amount to the right end of the denture. If the prosthesis is rather large, it may be appropriate to add another 2 doses by strategically placing them on the left and right side at equal distances from the central one.
Step 3. Check for tightness
Put the prosthesis on the gum. You must feel the glue stable, that it does not slip and does not create discomfort. There should be no excess glue leaking, otherwise the adhesive can enter the mouth or along the exposed areas of the gum line. If you don't feel a good fit and feel discomfort, remove your dentures and add 1 or 2 small doses until you feel stable.
Step 4. Repeat the procedure for the prosthesis of the other dental arch
Again, apply a series of small amounts of glue, being careful not to use too much for each spot. Put on your dentures and make sure they are comfortable and comfortable. If not, remove it and add a few more small doses as needed.
Step 5. Close and put the adhesive tube back
Putting the cap back on immediately after use allows you to keep the product effective over time and prevents it from drying out quickly. Keep the adhesive in a cool, dry place until you need to use it for the next application.
Advice
- Be aware that some types of denture adhesive contain significant amounts of zinc. In some people, this can cause a tingling sensation that starts in the gums and, in severe cases, can also cause discomfort in the hands and feet or in some places along the arms and legs. If this type of reaction occurs, stop using the product immediately and replace it with an adhesive that does not contain zinc.
- It is best never to put too much adhesive. Using too much can interfere with a secure fit and make it more difficult to clean the prosthesis when it is taken off overnight.
