Making cheese fries at home is super convenient, you don't even have to go out to enjoy them. Here are some easy ways to make them!
Step 1. First you have to decide whether to limit calories and prepare the chips in the oven, or if you prefer fried (in a pan or deep fryer)
Step 2. To make baked potatoes:
preheat the oven to 180 ° C. Slice the potatoes (preferably the white ones) lengthwise, obtaining slices about 1, 5 cm thick. Arrange the slices on a cutting board, take them a little at a time and cut them lengthwise again to have potato sticks similar to those in the restaurant. Dry them with paper towels and brush the potatoes with peanut, sunflower, or olive oil. Bake them in the oven, turning them occasionally, for 25 minutes or until cooked (try them with a fork). If you leave the skin on the potatoes, they will be more nutritious. If you don't like it, you can remove it before putting the potatoes in the oven.
Step 3. To fry the potatoes:
slice the potatoes as described above (you can also buy potato chips in bags at the supermarket, but they will probably be less good. Heat the oil in a pan (about 1.5 cm thick) almost to a boil. dry with absorbent paper, in the oil (if they are wet, the water will splash the oil and you could burn yourself!) and fry them for a few minutes, turning them often, until they are slightly golden.
Step 4. If you have a deep fryer, follow the instructions on the appliance; but in principle you should put the potatoes in the fryer basket and cook them until they turn a dark golden color, then carefully remove the basket and arrange the potatoes on a tray covered with paper to absorb the excess oil
Step 5. While you are cooking the potatoes, take some cream, stringy or toast cheese, put it in a bowl, cover it with plastic wrap and put it in the microwave for one minute at a time until it has melted, turning it at least once
If you don't have a microwave, make the cheese sauce before the potatoes. Put about two inches of water in the bottom of a fairly large pot, then take another smaller one and put it inside the larger one; grate the cheese in the small saucepan. Place these 'stacked' pots on the stove, over medium heat. The cheese will melt and stay warm in the small pot until the potatoes are ready.
