George Foreman grills aren't just for cooking meat; They are also great for making cheesy toast with fewer calories than traditional ones, as you won't need to add butter to bread.
Ingrediants
- 2 slices of bread
- 2 slices of cheese (your choice)
- Use a lot of cheese, and if you want to make a big meal, add some ham as well
- Other ingredients for various toasts will be recommended in the steps of this article
Steps
Step 1. Check if your George Foreman Grill is equipped with toast molds
If you have them, put them inside. Plug in the grill socket and heat it up.
If the grill doesn't have molds, you can use it anyway
Step 2. For the low calorie version, don't put butter on the bread
Place the cheese between the two slices of bread and place the toast on the hot grill. Cover and cook. Here are other ideas for grilled sandwiches or tasty toasts:
- Add some ham to give the toast more flavor.
- To make your meal more interesting, use different types of bread or cheese. For example, try goat cheese with wholemeal bread.
- Place a thin slice of tomato on the cheese and grill them together. Be careful not to burn your mouth, cooked tomatoes get very hot due to the high water content they contain.
- Add fruit or vegetables. For example, try goat cheese with apples, or make a classic tomato and cheese toast.
Step 3. As the grill cooks on both sides, it won't take long for the toast to turn golden and the cheese to melt
Check after a minute; it may take a little longer, but to avoid burning it is best to check often. Alternatively, you can save time by placing the toast on the grill when it is not yet hot and wait about 5 minutes; the exact time depends on the type of grill. If you have added extra ingredients, such as meat, this method works best with a preheated grill because the ingredients will have time to heat up before the bread burns.
Step 4. Place a plate next to the grill
When the toast is ready, lift the lid and unplug the grill from the power supply.
Step 5. Remove the toast with the supplied plastic spatula from the grill and place the toast on the plate
Serve it with your favorite soda.
Advice
- Make a savory sandwich with your favorite rustic bread and a thin layer of mayonnaise on both slices. Put a slice of ham on the bread and add some good brie. Combine the slices and sprinkle them with butter (lightly!). Grill the sandwich until the brie begins to melt and the bread becomes crisp and golden.
- If the bread gets burned, do not scrape the burned surface with a metal knife. You'd ruin the Foreman grill. Use the spatula that comes with the grill at the time of purchase. This way you may be able to save your sandwich.
Warnings
- Wash the cutting board you use for raw meat well if you use it for fresh vegetables later. You risk contaminating your ready-to-eat toast with raw meat!
- After eating the toast, wipe the grill with a sponge when it hasn't cooled completely yet. It will be much easier to clean it as the food residues left inside will not have time to encrust.
- A thin layer of butter (very thin) will make the bread more golden and flavorful. However, too much butter may make the bread less crunchy and higher in fat.
- Try cooking the toast without checking it often. With a little experience, you will learn to understand in how many minutes you will be able to obtain a perfect toast by cooking it undisturbed!
- Be careful not to let the bread burn.
