If you love crispy, golden bacon too, you'll be happy to know that there are quick ways to cook it without making a big mess in the kitchen. Just make sure you prepare enough because you will always want more.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: With the Absorbent Paper

Step 1. Prepare a dish suitable for use in the microwave, preferably in Pyrex or glass

Add several layers of kitchen paper to the plate. This will absorb the grease from the bacon, leaving the kitchen clean (but it will not exempt you from washing the dishes).

Step 2. Place a layer of six strips of bacon on the paper towel

Do not overlap them or they will not cook evenly.

Step 3. Add more sheets of paper on top of the bacon

This avoids splashes of fat inside the oven.

Step 4. Cook the bacon

Operate the microwave for about 3 minutes at maximum power or calculate about 90 seconds for each slice. Remember that cooking times may vary depending on the appliance model and the amount of bacon.

Step 5. Drain it of its fat

Remove it from the plate and place it on other kitchen paper to absorb the excess grease.

  • Wait for it to cool down for about a minute.
  • Remove it from the paper otherwise it will stick and residue will remain on the sliced.

Step 6. It is now ready to be enjoyed

When cooked this way it's crunchy and delicious, plus it's not as greasy as when fried in a pan, so it's healthier. You can enjoy it on eggs, on pancakes or on tomato toast. It can also turn into a snack.

Method 2 of 2: With a Microwave Bowl

Step 1. Place a microwave-safe bowl on top of a plate of the same type

In this method the bacon is placed on the sides of the bowl. As it cooks, the fat drips into the bowl and onto the plate, making subsequent cleaning operations easier.

Step 2. “Hang” the bacon slices on the edge of the bowl

Put as many as you like but avoid them coming into contact with each other, try to distance them. Either way, it wouldn't be a big deal.

Step 3. Cook the bacon

Place the bowl in the microwave and operate it for 90 seconds for each slice at maximum power. If you are preparing half a kilo of cold cuts, know that it will take 15 minutes.

  • To avoid dirtying the inside of the oven with splashes of fat, you can cover the bacon with kitchen paper.
  • After about 10 minutes, turn the microwave plate over. In this way you are sure that all the sliced is cooked evenly. At this point, if you don't like bacon that's too crunchy, you can take it out of the oven. Be very careful! The dish and the fat are hot!
  • Check the doneness to make sure the bacon is crunchy just right.

Step 4. Remove the sliced from the microwave

You will need an oven mitt as both the bowl and plate will be very hot. Also be careful to place them on a heat-resistant surface. Use kitchen tongs to lift the bacon slices and arrange them on kitchen paper.

  • If you let the bacon cool on the bowl, the slices will take on a "U" shape.
  • Be very careful of grease splashes as you remove the bowl from the oven.

Step 5. Store the fat

If you wish, you can keep it aside for cooking. Transfer it into an airtight container directly from the plate or put it in the refrigerator and wait for it to harden and then "scrape" it as if it were butter. It will make your fried eggs delicious!

  • Eliminate the fat if you don't intend to use it in the future.
  • Be very careful when handling the bowl and plate, they are hot!

Advice

  • If your microwave has a specific program for cooking bacon, use it.
  • Check the bacon a few times so it cooks properly.
  • If it doesn't have the right texture and feels a little chewy, it hasn't been cooked long enough.
  • Make sure the bowl you are using can withstand high temperatures, otherwise it will break.
  • If you want a cooking method that doesn't require any subsequent cleaning, you can follow the paper towel method, but instead of using a glass dish, use a paper or two (not plastic!). In this way you will not have to clean anything, put another paper plate on top of the sheet and the bacon to create a kind of "shell" in which to cook the bacon. In the end, throw away the plates and paper towels (save the bacon!) But be very careful as the fat is hot.
  • To make the bacon even more crunchy, cook it for about 3 minutes and then wait several minutes for the fat to cool. Finally, cook it for another minute (or as long as you like). Allowing the bacon to "rest" prevents it from cooking too quickly and allows the paper to absorb some of the fat between cooking.
  • Check it while it cooks, it may be ready before the oven switches off automatically.
  • If you let it cook too long it will become too crunchy, but it will still be delicious!
  • You can check the cooking by opening the door as many times as you want, without worrying that the temperature drops too much. The oven will immediately become hot as soon as you turn it back on.
