Mochi ice cream is popular in Asia, Hawaii, and the west coast of the United States. If you like to eat mochi, why not try a sweet and cold version of it?
Ingrediants
- Ice cream of a flavor of your choice
- 100 grams (4/5 cup) of glutinous rice flour
- 180 ml (3/4 cup) of water
- 50 grams (1/4 cup) of sugar
- Cornstarch
Steps
Step 1. Keep the ice cream at room temperature for a few minutes or until soft
Take it with a spoon and form ten balls. You can also use a round cupcake pan or ice cube tray. Put the scoops of ice cream in the freezer to let them re-harden.
Step 2. Mix the water and rice flour well in a bowl
You will need to get a batter. Pour in the sugar and mix until dissolved.
Step 3. Cover the dough with plastic wrap suitable for microwave cooking
Place the bowl with the dough in the microwave and heat it for two minutes. Remove the plastic wrap and mix the batter.
Step 4. Cover the dough with cling film again and put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds
Take it out of the oven and mix the batter.
Step 5. Line a cutting board with cling film
Step 6. Then sprinkle the cornstarch to cover the cutting board
Make sure it's enough so that the mochi batter doesn't stick to the plastic wrap or cutting board.
Step 7. Put the dough on the cutting board and flatten it after it has cooled slightly
Step 8. Sprinkle more cornstarch on top of the mochi batter
Step 9. Cut the dough into 10 pieces
Step 10. Take a piece of dough
Flatten it with the palm of your hand and wrap it around a scoop of ice cream. Repeat this process for the other mochi and ice cream pieces.
Step 11. Place them in the freezer to let the ice cream harden again
Serve them as soon as they are ready.
Advice
- The ice cream will melt quickly next to the hot mochi batter. Put it in the freezer right away!
- Make sure you don't roll the dough around the ice cream ball so much that it breaks. If this happens, add some dough where the hole is.
- You can use any flavor of ice cream you prefer. The most popular flavors in ice cream parlors are: green tea, vanilla, strawberry and red bean.
- The larger the ice cream balls, the more dough you have to put around them.
