Being successful in school requires a lot of patience and motivation. Unfortunately, you will encounter many distractions along your path and it will sometimes be difficult to say no. However, if you want to become a model student, then you need to start learning to say no to these distractions. It can be difficult during the school year and even tiring, but hard work always pays off in the end. When you graduate, you will want top marks and be remembered for your diligence. Therefore, consider that becoming a model student will be instrumental in your success in the future.
Steps
Step 1. Make good use of the diary
There is a reason to keep it updated. Not just to write homework, but also to make sure you mark all the things you need to remember (like games, exercises, study sessions, etc.). To become a model student, you will need to be able to keep up with all your activities. Use it to organize and follow your schedules and also to set yourself time limits. If you spend more than an hour on the math test, it is clear that you have not understood the lesson and that, by doing so, you are harming yourself. Stop, put it aside and move on to study another subject. Take it back later and if you still don't understand, explain to the professor what happened. He'll be happy to help you and won't lower your grades. However, try to demonstrate the effort you have made to accomplish your homework.
Step 2. Get organized
Make sure you have all the materials you need. A binder with rings and compartments for each subject (and a single booklet for secondary subjects) with loose sheets and dividers can help you, if they are useful. If your teacher likes to explain a lot, get a notepad with a spiral - the pages will be more difficult to tear than the sheets with holes. Keep the pages in chronological order - it will be easier to find the last one while you study. If the binder becomes full, transfer the older sheets to another binder that you will keep at home. In this way you will not have to carry them with you, but they will remain preserved until you have to study for the end-of-term interrogations.
Step 3. School It is important
You don't have to be a nerd holed up in his bedroom on a Friday night or reading huge books in the corner to look like someone who takes school seriously. The truth is that school IS important. You need to build a good curriculum and to do this you will need to enroll at a good university that contributes to your preparation. However, even if you decide not to go to university, school is essential. Socialize wisely and intelligently. It's important to have fun and have lots of extra-curricular activities, but that said, don't do your homework lightly! School should be your priority. Consider extracurricular activities useful for your college resume.
Step 4. School is important, but so is social life
The key is balance. You can be the best in all subjects, but if you do not include any other activities in your university application, you will have many difficulties in being accepted. It's not nice either way. Get busy at school, but make sure you don't neglect the playful side during the school years and you won't regret it.
Step 5. Get involved
There is no need to wear bright colors every day or to be an entertainer. What is needed is to be aware of the things that happen at school, for example who won the basketball game last Friday, attend the school dances and shows, not miss the programs that the student body organizes, etc. Continuing to follow current and political events is as important as being active within the school. So not only will you bond with other people, but you will always be part of your school community. Show your interest in and support for the activities organized in the school context.
Step 6. Play a sport
It's easy to forget about keeping fit when your workload begins to pile up, but being part of a team will make you less agitated when some school deadline approaches. Add a sport to everyday life. If it will keep you busy for three seasons, for example, and you know that you will have to go through a period of hard work with your homework, you may want to consider interrupting it for a shorter or longer period. Try to give your best in both sports and school and you'll be great - healthy and diligent.
Step 7. Identify your passions and find a group that cultivates them
Not playing sports is no excuse for doing nothing after school. If you are passionate about art, follow a group that is dedicated to artistic activities. Do you like music? Form a band. Take part in something and make sure you carry on your passion for some time, also because it is useful to include it in your university enrollment. If you are not part of any school group or association, ask the school director to open one. He will most likely say yes and it will be very easy to get other guys involved as well.
Step 8. Take care of the choice of university
As soon as you are in the second school year, start visiting some universities. You don't have to decide anything yet, but it will help you understand if you prefer to study in a not so large academic context or in a wider one (urban, suburban, state, etc.). Go to the contact person for study guidance - who will write a letter of recommendation, so the more he knows you, the more favorable the letter will be for you. In addition, it can help you choose the university and find a scholarship.
Step 9. Take care of your school average
The school average is as important to you as creditworthiness is important to your parents. Low credit rating prevents your parents from taking out loans, credit cards, renting a house, managing credit on their cell phone, and more. Your parents' creditworthiness is their lifeline, because it opens and closes doors. So, consider the school average as your lifeline! With a high average, the range of options after graduation widens, because you can choose between different universities. A low average limits this range. Having a wider choice is a weapon for success in life!
Step 10. Make friends with everyone
There are too many prejudices about small groups of kids: who is friends with whom, who is more popular, etc. The best thing to do is to be friends with everyone. Trust in others and above all in yourself. Get in the habit of greeting people and don't be afraid to talk to new classmates. The more comfortable you are between different groups of people, the more people will like you and the more you will practice socializing in life.
Step 11. Don't compare yourself to others
There are far too many things to worry about to worry about this. The school is only a place where the confrontation to be sustained is with oneself. Every day you should try to give your best, don't worry about how trendy the partner sitting in front of you is, her grades, her boyfriend, etc. All this is not important! Focus on yourself and what you do best. Apply yourself to this!
Step 12. Don't delay
This is probably the first curse of all students. It's hard and it's okay if you do it once in a while. But when it's time to prepare for classwork, questions and exams, don't make it a habit. You will be sorry in the end, especially at university when you will be struggling with a huge amount of notes and things to read. It is better to get used to doing things in due time, without delay, rather than waiting for the last minute.
Step 13. Don't skip breakfast and lunch
It sounds silly, but it will surprise you how many people skip breakfast and lunch. Not only is it stupid, but above all unhealthy. First of all, because breakfast is a varied and delicious meal. If you don't have time to do it at home, buy something from the nearby café at the bus stop. It is important to get the metabolism started well so that it does not have difficulties throughout the day. Lunch is important to keep the stomach from rumbling in the second phase of the day. A full stomach keeps you focused. Skipping meals not only slows down your metabolism, it makes you gain more weight, not lose it.
Step 14. Stay healthy both in and out of school
Don't fall into the trap of the vending machine. Most of the food in there is unhealthy and disgusting. Go for the soy fries or something cereal, if the dispenser is all you have at the moment. Don't fall victim to the vitamin water trap either - it's just an addition of sugars. Only if you are an athlete and burn more than 400 calories could you consume enough for a pack of gummy bears or whatever. At home, have a snack to keep your stomach full until dinner - eat fruit, nuts and chips which are less caloric. Consuming junk food during the day is unhealthy and only gives you temporary energy to perform some task or to study a dozen pages. Convince your school to get a distributor with natural and organic products.
Step 15. Get enough sleep
This is easier said than done, yet sleep has many benefits. If each student could get 7-10 hours of sleep as they should, they would be more peaceful. Try to do things at the right times so that you don't waste your waking hours. Not only will you be more alert during the day, but it will help you not to spoil your wax and your appearance and you will be much more attentive during the most boring subjects and, consequently, to stand out in them. Of course, it will not always be possible, especially during the year of graduation, the most feared. If you have to get excellent grades for university enrollment and do different activities at the same time, you will happen to study until one in the morning - if it happens, skip some activities and take a nap! You are of no use to anyone when you deprive yourself of sleep. Naps are a great thing. Also, caffeine can help your concentration - but consider the side effects and addiction that can hurt you in the short and long term. Try using some stimulants in a balanced way and only when absolutely necessary, such as for a class test.
Step 16. The only direction to follow is towards yourself
This doesn't mean you have to go to school with socks on or anything. You should have your own style and personality so that you make your mark the right way and not as a replicant of other guys. Be original and trust yourself. It is commonplace, but it is fundamental. People will be inclined to remember you and want you as a friend if you are interesting and stand out from the crowd.
Step 17. Try to go out on the weekend
You endured 5 days of agony at school and it's time to let go. On the weekend, if you have friends to hang out with, go somewhere to have fun, maybe at a party. Even if you don't have many friends, spend the weekend relaxed and do what you like. Let go and get your energy back, so when Monday comes, you are energized and ready to focus on studying again. But remember that school is your priority, so don't do it if you have a lot of homework to prepare for the weekend.
Step 18. Never give up
This also seems commonplace, but it is an important aspect. School is all about ups and downs between moments of despair, relief and constant trials, while making friends along the way. Learn to laugh when you make a mistake. Do not be discouraged if you occasionally get a low grade on a class test or a question. Tell yourself to study harder to improve your performance next time. If your team has lost a game, encourage yourself to train better. If you learn to do all of this, you will need it in the future when school is over. Learn from your mistakes and you will not falter along the path of your life. Just remember, nobody's perfect.
Advice
- If you're struggling not to be left behind with a high homework load, tell your teachers. Don't be afraid to ask for an extension or help before / after school or during lunch or a break. The teachers are there to help you. And then, at worst, they'll tell you no.
- If you are trying to postpone further, there is a trick. The hardest part of everything is leaving. Make an effort to start homework or study without other thoughts. Concentrate seriously for at least fifteen minutes and you will find that your mind is training in a mechanism of studies that penetrate the way of seeing things. From now on you will be so absorbed in your work that you don't think fifteen minutes have passed!
- Stay away from chatter and gossip. You have so many other things to do to take care of this.
- Remember that organization, and high school in general, is a learning process. It is a work of constant refinement. The discovery of yourself will also pass through the discovery of methods and practices that will remain with you throughout your life. Don't be afraid to go through trial and error and take the risk. After, you will be glad you did.
- Learn to befriend your teachers. It will make things easier for you in the future, when you apply for university enrollment and you need advice.
- Even if you are a shy person, try to have at least two friends to confide in and to support you in times of difficulty. Attend groups that interest you, where you can show that you are brilliant at what you are passionate about. You will be surprised at how you attract people.
- Each student has their own organization method. While some teachers prefer not to load children with supplementary notes and explanations, others increase the load with several pages of notes. In this regard, some students organize themselves better than others. Pay attention to your needs. If you are precise, make sure you don't fill yourself with notes (one page a day will suffice) and empty your binder at home from time to time, trying to keep only one for all subjects with individual sections for each. By doing this, your backpack will be lighter. If, on the other hand, you are not very organized and your professors want your notes to be arranged in different sections for each subject, it is better for you to keep separate binders for each main subject (mathematics, history, science, literature, foreign language, etc.) and one larger for secondary ones. For most students, a binder with 1 or 2 sections per subject is proposed depending on the amount of notes and the importance of the subject.
- Getting involved in a story with a boy / girl at school is your choice. Don't feel the need to bond with someone just because others do. You still have a lot of time ahead, so why not make good use of school to focus on the work ahead and give yourself the opportunity to enroll in a good university? But that doesn't mean you definitely don't have to go out with someone you like - a boyfriend / girlfriend fixed / a may be the best antidepressant in the world!
- You can skip school occasionally, although it is not recommended, but remember which is an extreme measure and not something to be done regularly. It is more like students who attend various groups, think exclusively about playing sports and who do not apply themselves in the study. If you feel a dip, ask your parents to stay home for a day - don't do it without their permission. Check that it is a day when there is no test in class or an important deadline for questions. If you have an online homework calendar, don't forget to check it out so you don't get left behind with lessons - otherwise, taking a day off won't do any good!
Warnings
- Don't worry about school bullies because they're not that bright. They try to be, but they are not! You have much more important priorities in your life than looking after them, and besides, it's not constructive to surround yourself with negative people. Try to avoid them when you can and stay with those who send you serenity, like friends, to chase away those who want to take it away from you.
- Don't get tired. If you work too hard, you risk your grades going down and, for sure, that's not what you want.
