Do you want to become a great student? Here are some tips to do this.
Steps
Step 1. Like all good students, you need to pay attention
During the lesson, take notes and, if something is not clear to you, raise your hand and ask the teacher for clarification. The more questions you ask, the more you'll learn, believe it or not. If you don't take notes and keep talking to your classmates, you won't learn anything, so pay attention to your teacher!
Step 2. Review your notes when you have time
Step 3. Even if it will take you some time, tidy up your notes, or ask someone to do it for you
Either way, remember that it doesn't hurt to review what you've already learned.
Step 4. Always do your homework
Teachers assign them for good reason. They serve to fix the concepts you learned that day. Take advantage of your free time. For example, if you come home by train or bus, do your homework on the way. You could start them in school, because you would have the teacher on hand in case you need help. Try to do them without haste, with precision and with control over everything. If you want to be a really good student, you should know that to succeed you have to deal with things that may seem unfair. But homework is nothing special. Also remember that they are critical to developing good habits and the right attitude. Always do what is asked of you.
Step 5. Always be prepared
Bring everything you might need to school: books, notebooks, pens, pencils, homework, corrections, etc. It's always a good idea to have everything close at hand.
Step 6. Organize everything
Organization at school is very important. It is the first step to success. Create a folder for each subject, putting everything related to math in the appropriate folder and so on. To better distinguish them, you could use colored folders or labels.
Step 7. Study
If you have a test, it would be better to start studying a few days in advance, planning the study hours. If an extracurricular activity gets in the way of your study schedule, let the people concerned know that you won't be able to attend the event or that you will need to leave earlier than expected. Sometimes, you won't be able to postpone it, so you will be forced to make up for another day, but it is precisely in these cases that it is useful to have everything planned. Mark the date of the test on the calendar and recover the study hours lost in your free time. Always remember: use your time wisely, bearing in mind that your efforts will be rewarded with excellent results.
Step 8. Start reading some more
If you don't do it regularly, choose easy reading and then move on to more complex text. You may not know, but by reading challenging books you will be able to broaden your vocabulary.
Step 9. Ask your parents or siblings to take a look at the notes and create a short test at least three days before the actual exam
You should always study the night before a test.
Step 10. If you get stuck, don't lose your cool but try to concentrate on your work and everything will be fine
Step 11. Mind maps can be helpful in understanding the more difficult topics
Advice
- Time management is key.
- Always be ready to answer questions and raise your hand more often.
- Stay focused. Everyone knows that lessons can be boring, but you have to try hard to stay focused. Keep your eyes on the teacher, keep your ears open and take notes, which will help you understand the concepts explained better.
- Don't be shy, but be confident. It doesn't matter if you gave some wrong answers, because you are still learning and without mistakes you will never learn! Remember that no one will kill you if you do something wrong!
- Stop studying at least an hour before bed to allow your brain to relax. By overloading it, you will not be able to properly assimilate the concepts studied.
- If a teacher asks you a question, don't panic but be confident and answer without problems.
- Start studying when you start a new chapter.
- Always try to get extra credits. Even if you have high grades, you can always do better.
- Rewriting your notes can be helpful if you have chosen fairly difficult subjects (e.g. law, economics, design, etc.).
- Scientific studies have shown that people tend to forget acquired information 10 minutes before falling asleep. Therefore, after studying, do not go to sleep immediately but do something else.
- Lessons can be interesting if you pay attention and listen to the teacher. If you already know the subject, it will be pleasant, otherwise you should delve into it a little bit.
- If you are good enough, you could teach other people, which will help you develop your memory.
- Relax! Sleep is essential for staying focused both during class and while studying.
- Don't let your parents put pressure on you. Gently explain to them to loosen your grip and let yourself breathe, because you can't take all that stress and, in the end, hug them.
- Take a break after studying. This way, you will avoid stressing yourself too much.
- Try to find out if your brain is that of an engineer or a poet. If you make more use of the left hemisphere of the brain, you should be more organized, logical, rational; if, on the other hand, you take advantage of the right hemisphere more, you should be intuitive, emotional and see things from an abstract point of view. If you take a test and find that you are both a poet and an engineer, don't worry, it's normal! There are many people like you.
- If you play an instrument or sing, try to do it every day. It is not only useful for improving your musical skills, but also for developing the ability to concentrate you need in studying.
- You can create mind maps to repeat topics before an exam or test.
- Find out how you tend to learn concepts (through visual, auditory or kinesthetic memory) and search for information online to outline a study method that fits your abilities. It will make things even easier. Answer the memory test questions without lying.
Warnings
- Sometimes, model students aren't very popular and people think they're weird. Play sports and try to socialize. These extracurricular activities are also essential for developing the mind.
- Do not copy. Whoever copies, learns nothing. Also, if you were caught, you would be in big trouble. It's not worth it!
- Sometimes, it can be helpful to do old exercises a few days before a test.
- Whatever you do, never postpone, otherwise you will be forced to recover everything in no time and, probably, you will not get the grade you deserve. If you postpone the study of the topics that will be covered in a test, you will have to review everything in no time.
- Remember the votes you receive. If you can check them online, do it every day; in this way, you will not receive unexpected surprises, you will know if you need to deepen some topic or if the grades have been wrongly transcribed.
- Don't lose your mind if you get a bad grade. It happens to anyone, even the best students. It's not the end of the world. Try harder next time.
