There are many articles that explain how a whole book is summed up. However, just like with a long and complex math problem, understanding becomes easier if you break the task down into smaller pieces. Inspire yourself to this example to understand the general idea of the book: you will see that synthesizing it will be easier. The secret? Divide each chapter into an outline.
Steps
Step 1. Consider each individual paragraph to identify the main topic covered
Outlining a chapter means analyzing the various sections that make it up. It is the easiest way to break up all the thoughts the author wants to communicate to the reader in this space. Take your time to read each paragraph at least three times.
Step 2. Pay particular attention to the first sentence
It usually represents the main idea of the paragraph (if the author wrote it correctly). The first few words allow you to get an overview of all that the paragraph has to offer to the reader. It is not a sentence that you have to copy directly into the outline of the chapter: rework in your own words what was written in the book. In this way, what you read will remain even more impressed on you.
Step 3. Since there is no need to break any laws, be sure not to copy sentences contained in the paragraph itself
Instead, take the general thought of the section, especially the first sentence, and rewrite it in a way that allows you to understand the text more easily. Use a single sentence to summarize a paragraph. Plagiarism is a real crime that is currently receiving a lot of legal attention. Universities are also taking this issue seriously. In fact, analyzes are often carried out and students who are found guilty are punishable by law. They are often expelled without having the opportunity to return to the institution. And you definitely don't want this incident to damage your resume.
Step 4. At this point, you have completed the outline of the first paragraph
Next to the first sentence, insert an A to remind you that this is the summary of this specific section.
Step 5. Repeat all the steps explained so far for each paragraph in the chapter
This is the simplest way to schematize it. Understand that this is not a detailed summary, you do not have to summarize all the ideas that are presented in the chapter. Such a scheme helps you to study books better; if you still go to school, the teacher will realize that you read carefully and can help you more effectively if you have any doubts.
