This tutorial shows the steps required to be able to catch 'Lugia' while playing Pokemon Silver.
Steps
Step 1. Get the first seven medals
To get the 'Gym Leaders' medals, you will have to face them all and defeat them.
Step 2. Get 'the Silver Wing'
You will only get it after beating Team Rocket at the Goldenrod City tower.
Step 3. Head to the 'Whirl Islands'
To do this, use your city map.
Step 4. Go through the 'Whirl Islands'
At this point you will need a pokemon that knows the 'Flash' move.
Step 5. Find the old man at the end of the underground path, then go down the stairs
Step 6. 'Lugia' should be in the cave below
Now save your game progress so you don't have to start over and get ready for combat.
Step 7. When ready, walk until you reach 'Lugia', then press the 'A' button to talk to him
It will emit a battle cry that will signal the start of the fight.
Don't use your 'Master Balls'
Advice
- You can catch Lugia in Pokemon Gold and HeartGold the same way. However, you will need to get the Rainbow Wing from an old man in 'Pewter City'.
- Always choose a pokemon that knows the moves that inflict a state of 'Freezing', 'Paralysis' or 'Sleep'.
- The steps in this guide can also be used in the 'Silver Soulsilver' version of the game.
- 'Lugia' is a very powerful pokemon that possesses a very strong move called 'Airstrike'. Avoid using 'Grass', 'Poison' and 'Fighting' pokemon during battle.
- If possible use an electric type pokemon with the Thunder Wave move.

- Always save game progress before a fight.
- For new players: don't think it's just any pokemon bird living inside a cave. What you have found is actually a legendary pokemon, be cautious and be prepared to use your 'Master Balls'.
