So you wanna be the best? Do you want to catch them to train them? Will you travel to borders, far and wide? You have the skills to be the number one? Well, here's a guide to becoming a Pokémon Master! A Pokémon Master needs to be very determined and has to work hard, plus they also need to have a lot of Pokémon.
Steps
Step 1. If you don't have a Pokémon game, buy one
You will also need a Nintendo DS, DS lite, DSi, DSi XL or 3DS. It is recommended that you buy a Generation VI, Generation VI spin-off (derivative), Generation V, Generation V spin-off, Generation IV and Generation IV spin-off game (some examples of spin-off games are Battle and Get! Pokemon Typing DS and Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs). Generations I-III are played on Nintendo Game Boy. The newest console with which you can play Generation 1 and 2 games is the Game Boy Advance SP, while you can play Generation 3 games with the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite. You can catch 493 Pokémon using the Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver versions and therefore there is no reason to use another. After choosing the game and your Pokémon starter (first Pokémon), go to step 2.
Step 2. Visit an online Pokémon guide (such as on this site)
Step 3. Perform the tasks required by the game
When you get Poké Balls, catch new Pokémon. They must be wild, so head to the grass to randomly beat one of them. Let your Pokémon fight with it and weaken it, but don't defeat it. When very weak, throw a Pokéball at the wild Pokémon. You will have a better chance of catching it if it is truly in poor health. If you manage to catch it, you can use your new Pokémon immediately if you have a free space on your team. In total you have 6 spaces on your team. Pokémon caught with no free spaces are transported to Someone's PCs (Bill's, Lanette's, Amanita's or Bebe's depending on your game version), which can be handled by Pokémon Center computers.
Step 4. Start training your Pokémon
The method listed above is good for catching Pokémon. Now you have to train them! Let them fight wild Pokémon to gain experience. Be sure to heal your Pokémon in Pokémon Centers in cities and towns. In Pokémon Centers, the services are free. Also, buy useful items for your adventure at the Poké Marts stores. If you look into your Pokémon's stats, you can see the experience points needed to advance to the next level. Each time your Pokémon defeats another, it gains experience points, and as it progresses to the next level it becomes stronger.
Step 5. Learn the statistics
Each additional level makes your Pokémon stronger. But how much stronger? Look at the statistics screen. There you will see: Hit Points, Attack, Defense, Special Attacks, Special Defense and Speed. Hit Points represents the Pokémon's life in points, if this value reaches zero your Pokémon is out of action. Attack represents your Pokémon's strength in physical attacks, Giga impact, and Outrage. Defense represents the damage your Pokémon receives from a physical attack, the higher its value is, the less damage it will be. Special Attacks represent the strength of special attacks, such as Ice Beam or Thundershock. Special Defense is like normal defense but only works against special attacks. (Note that in Red, Blue, and Yellow, Special Attacks and Special Defense are simply a stat: Special.) Finally, Speed represents the speed that determines who attacks first.
Step 6. Learn the mechanics of battle
By playing you will realize how it works. But you can go further. Pokémon with a high speed value attack first in a battle, which can be crucial. In battle, a Pokémon's move hits the opponent. A Pokémon can also do double damage, called a critical hit. Each attack has a Power Point (strengths) count. This determines how many times a Pokémon can use this attack. Attacks like Tackle consume a large number of PP equal to 35. Stronger attacks like Thunder consume a number of PP equal to 10. Make sure you manage your moves well by choosing efficient attacks; the Thunder attack is powerful but you can only use it 10 times and it's not very accurate. The Thunderbolt (lightning) attack is weaker, but you can use it 15 times and it is very accurate. Remember that if your Pokémon runs out of PP, you will start using a move called Struggle. Some moves are excellent against others (e.g. water against fire) and vice versa.
Step 7. Learn the Status Effect
The Status Effect can occur in a battle and have negative effects on affected Pokémon. These effects are: Paralyze, Burn, Poison, Freeze and Sleep. When a Pokémon is paralyzed, its speed is halved and there is a 20% chance that it will fail to attack during its turn. When a Pokémon is Poisoned, it begins to lose HP each turn until it dies. When a Pokémon is Burned, its attacks weaken and it loses HP every turn. When a Pokémon is Asleep, it cannot attack for several turns until it awakens. Finally, the most powerful of all is Freeze. When a Pokémon is frozen, it cannot do anything until it is thawed. There are also other status effects that are not immediately visible. They can overlap with more obvious ones like Sleeping or Poisoning. These include Flinching (skip a turn) in which the affected Pokémon skips a turn, and Confusion in which the Pokémon can attack itself and others at random. Furthermore, it is easier to catch Pokémon when they are affected by these status effects (especially from Sleeping and Freezing).
Step 8. For those who use Diamond / Pearl / Platinum / HeartGold / SoulSilver, Pokémon in Battle Tower will not be registered in the PokéDex
And that's not a good thing. So don't waste your time there if you want to complete the PokeDex. Only go there if you want to check a Pokémon's power. You can buy useful items, such as HP Up, Rare Candy, Life Orb and TMs! These items will make your Pokémon super powerful!
Step 9. Defeat other trainers
Become stronger by challenging trainers after battling wild Pokémon. A trainer has Pokémon that are stronger than the wild ones and if you defeat them you get more experience points. Some argue that "forcing" one Pokémon to fight another is abuse; But these people forget that Pokémon are competitive and love to fight against them, so go ahead and fight with your heart! You can also battle your friends in Pokémon Center and see who is the best!
Step 10. Do some caving
Which Pokémon quest doesn't have a bit of caving? If you see a mysterious cave, explore it! If you see an abandoned power plant rumored to have a wild Pokémon unleashed inside, explore it despite warnings from the engineers! If you see a tower touching the sky, where the main Pokémon in the sky is and can kill you easily, climb the tower! You won't get very far by only catching Pokémon that you randomly find in the National Park! Go on an adventure, find treasures, strong Pokémon and very strong Pokémon.
Step 11. Swap Pokémon whenever possible
Try doing GTS Negotiations in games where it is possible. This is easier than waiting for a Pokémon in GTS and getting a level 1 one.
Step 12. Defeat the 8 gym bosses
Gym bosses are the tallest trainers and have the strongest Pokémon. There are 8 bosses in a single region and each one has a different theme, such as Brock Rock from Pewter's Gym, Ghost Morty from Ecruteak's City, Winona Volante from Fortree's Gym, and Electric Volkner from Sunyshore City. Each boss will give you a medal that proves their defeat. When you get all 8 medals, you will be part of the Pokémon League where the best trainers hone their skills.
Step 13. Start by challenging the Elite Four
Each region has a group called the Elite Four which represents the 4 best coaches of that region who preside over the Pokémon Championships. It takes 8 medals to prove you are ready for the Elite Four. These four have themes like gym bosses, but less whimsical. They have to be challenged consecutively one after the other, unlike gym leaders who are challenged only after they reach the place they are at. When you defeat them, you are the best! Or not?
Step 14. Challenge the Champion
Did I think I was the first to defeat the Elite Four? You will find that your rival has just defeated them before you and therefore has already taken all the credit. Or, you may go so far as to take on the Elite Four only to find that a very trusted ally is the champion and that will therefore lead to a very interesting battle. In any case, the Champion is even stronger than the Elite Four and usually has a wide range of Pokémon. When you defeat him, you are the best!
Step 15. Capture all Pokémon
Well, if you become the Champion you are just a very powerful Pokémon trainer. But if you want to become a true Pokémon Master, you still have to do a lot of things. You have to catch all the Pokémon. If you have managed to defeat the Elite Four, you will have enough money to buy new Poké Balls, such as Ultra Balls, and special ones such as Timer Balls and Quick Balls which are more specialized. There are many Pokémon to catch; searches yielded 718 Pokémon. You will need to do some trading to get some rare Pokémon. To get the complete set, you must also transfer the Pokémon game from GBA (game boy advance) to the Diamond and Pearl versions.
Step 16. Take part in Pokémon competitions (in new versions)
There is something more than just battles! There are contests of endurance, cunning, beauty, coldness and goodness! Take part in these races with your Pokémon and have them compete in 3 rounds. In the first round, they will be judged on stats, aesthetics and theme. The second round consists of a dance. The final round is a parodic battle in which the goal is to make your Pokémon look good, cute, tough, shrewd, and gorgeous using certain attacks. If you win these events you will receive ribbons.
Step 17. Train the Pokémon to be perfect (if you can)
If you can get a perfect Pokémon and are happy after doing it, then do it with your whole team! For more information, do research on how to train a Pokémon to perfection.
Step 18. Become a Pokémon Master
Now that you've won a bunch of ribbons, collected 493 Pokémon, become a champion, and trained a team of Pokémon (if you did), you can start being a true Pokémon Master! Wait, what if you want to be the Pokémon Master? Well, challenge other Pokémon Masters in high-level battles and competitions. Go to the next level, 3D consoles, in the Stadium, Colosseum and even the new Battle Revolution and fight against very strong trainers. Find the people who have risen as high as you by becoming Champion, capturing 493 Pokémon, winning all races, training the team to be perfect, and winning with the 3D consoles that separate Pokémon Master from Pokémon Semi-Master.
Step 19. The Pokeathlon
!! In the HeartGold / SoulSilver versions there is a new mode called Pokeathlon, it is the union of the words Pokémon and Triathlon because it involves choosing 3 Pokémon for 3 events. There are 5 courses: Speed, Stamina, Power, Jump, Skill. All Pokèmon have basic stats for each category and a maximum value they can reach. You can increase the values to the maximum by using the Aprijuice (juice opener). There are 10 courses in total: Snow Throwing, Flag Catching, Soccer, Relay, Obstacle Course, Discus Catch, Lamp Jump, Ring Fall, Block Destroy, Circle Push. The good thing about Pokeathon is that your Pokémon can perform well even without being trained, only with evolution and a lot of opening up. So what are you waiting for? Begin your Pokémon experience. Tough battles and events await you. After you become a master, tell your friends to come and read this article if they too want to become a Pokémon master. Now show the Pokémon world who you are! After defeating the Johto gym bosses you are ready to go to Kanto! To go to Kanto, go to the port of the city of Olivine and talk to the manager to get on the "S. S Aqua" (after defeating the elite four). The ship sails on Mondays and Fridays only and you will be in the city of Vermilion. Or you can take the Magnetic Train after getting the pass from Copycat.
Advice
- Train by challenging wild Pokémon or trainers outside of your missions. You can defeat the Elite four countless times and make a lot of profits!
- Train your Pokémon to look like a master's Pokémon. Keep their levels high, with a varied number of attacks, a vast inventory of items, such as Magnet, Coal, Mystical Water and Miracle Seeds. Make sure they can complement their weaknesses.
- Especially experienced players. Those who know the game console well. Otherwise, they may refuse to help you or spoil your challenges.
- There is no mediocre coach. Every coach is strong at something. (For example, you may have powerful Pokémon. Your friend David may have Fire Pokémon. Sara may have exceptional Pokémon for competitions. Your other friend Julius may have Egg Pokémon. In your own way, you will all be powerful.)
- Don't brag about your skills. It only serves to annoy others.
- Catch as many Pokémon as you can. Some are rare and are only found on occasion. Kindly ask friends to do some swapping, give you some advice, etc.
- Remember that you don't have to bluff if you want to be a true Pokémon Master. Everything must be done legitimately. It will take strength and courage, but if you commit yourself and follow the paths and advice correctly you will become a Pokemon Master.
- Be nice to friends. Make them want to play with you.
- Buy a guide if you get stuck. It will be useful to you.
- There is no unbeatable team. All teams have a weakness, so don't say you are "unbeatable".
Warnings
- Don't brag too much. Not everyone is as powerful as you, but there are also those stronger than you.
- Be sporty.
- Don't bluff using tricks. The "real" Pokémon Masters never bluff. Nintendo will find out one day or the other that you are bluffing. So don't do it if you don't know the risks you take. Also, bluffing is very annoying when the game or computer is corrupted by human errors and tricks.
- To avoid getting frustrated, take breaks from time to time. Take a break every hour from doing something different, like watching TV or playing a board game with a friend.
- Don't act like a child. It's just a game, you may not be able to be a Pokémon Master.
- 9 out of 10 people will fail to catch all Pokémon. There are 718 Pokémon, so don't be discouraged! The professor will tell you that you have a full PokéDex only after you have caught all Pokémon, excluding the event Pokémon.
