While playing Minecraft, eating is one of the essential activities to be able to restore the "Hunger" points of the related indicator bar. When the latter is completely empty your character begins to lose "Health" points. Different foods have different benefits; for example, taking care to cook the meat before eating it, the bar indicating the "Hunger" level will fill up much faster.

Steps

Part 1 of 4: Finding Food

Step 1. Kill the animals that populate the world of Minecraft to get some fresh meat

There are many Minecraft animals that once killed allow you to collect their meat. All types of meat obtained in this way are safe even if eaten raw, with the exception of chicken meat that raw will cause you to get food poisoning. To increase the benefits of meat, you will need to cook it before eating it.

  • You can eat beef, pork, chicken, sheep, rabbit and "Mooshrooms".
  • Check out this guide for more details on how to set up an animal farm for meat production.

Step 2. Fish for food

If you have a fishing rod, you can use it to catch fresh fish. Raw fish, raw salmon, or clownfish are safe to eat, but puffer fish cause food poisoning and nausea if ingested. As with meat, cooking fish also increases its benefits.

Step 3. Grow vegetables

There are several varieties of vegetables and plants that, if harvested, give you the opportunity to obtain food. You can grow potatoes, carrots, beets, apples and melons. These plant varieties can be found in various locations throughout the game world, however the greatest concentration may be in the vicinity of farming villages.

It is only possible to eat food when the food is not completely full. The only exceptions to this rule are milk, "Chorus" fruit and "Golden apple".

The bar indicating the level of "Hunger" points, once an alert level is reached, will begin to vibrate. When at least one icon that makes up the "Hunger" points bar goes out, you will be able to feed your character

Part 4 of 4: Eat Food Efficiently

Step 1. Understand how the bar that indicates the level of "Hunger" points works

Although only one bar is visible indicating the level of the player's "Hunger" points, in reality, there are two mechanisms behind this aspect of the game: the "Hunger" level and the "Saturation" level. The latter, in particular, is not visible to the player, but its effects affect the speed with which the "Hunger" bar empties. Before the latter begins to wear out, the character's "Saturation" level must reach 0. Some foods increase the saturation level more than others, allowing you to last longer without eating.

Your character's saturation level drops the moment you perform strenuous activities, such as running. The "Hunger" point indicator bar will begin to oscillate when the saturation level reaches 0

Step 2. When the "Hunger" bar is nearly full, eat the foods that significantly increase the saturation level and a little that of the "Hunger" points

In this way you will contribute to keeping the saturation level high which will allow you to stay longer without having to eat food.

Foods with a high level of saturation include cooked pork chops, steaks, cooked mutton, cooked salmon, "Golden Carrots" and "Golden Apples"

Step 3. Always cook the meat to reap the greatest benefits

All the types of meat found in the Minecraft world can be eaten raw for a small amount of "Hunger" points, but if it is cooked first the results are considerably better. In order to cook the meat, you need to use a furnace. It is possible to create one by placing 8 blocks of "Crushed" in the manufacturing grid, being careful to leave the central position free.

  • Once you've created a furnace, place the fuel at the bottom and the meat to cook at the top. When eaten, cooked meat brings three times the number of "Hunger" points than raw meat and five times the number of "Saturation" points.
  • The only way to safely eat chicken is to cook it. Eating raw chicken has a 30% chance of getting food poisoning.
  • By cooking the potatoes in the furnace, you get excellent baked potatoes, which give you a higher number of "Hunger" points than raw ones.

Step 4. Prepare great food by mixing the individual ingredients correctly

In Minecraft there are a variety of foods that cannot be eaten individually, but are used to prepare other foods. This type of food guarantees an excellent supply of "Hunger" points, but not as good of "Saturation" points. Use this type of food when your character's "Hunger" points level is very low, in this way you will get the best benefits:

  • Bread: made with 3 units of grain.
  • Cake: made with 3 units of milk, 2 units of sugar, an egg and 3 units of wheat.
  • Biscuits: they are prepared with 2 units of wheat and a cocoa bean.
  • Mushroom Stew: Made using a unit of mushrooms and a bowl.
  • Pumpkin Pie: Made using an egg, a sugar unit, and a pumpkin.
  • Rabbit stew: made with cooked rabbit, a carrot, a baked potato, a mushroom and a bowl.
  • Golden Carrots: Obtained by using a carrot and 8 gold nuggets.
  • Golden Apples: Obtained using an apple and 8 gold nuggets.

Step 5. Avoid food poisoning

There are different types of foods that, if eaten without first being properly prepared, can cause food poisoning. When your character gets food poisoning he loses 0.5 "Hunger" points per second for 30 seconds. To counteract the effects of intoxication, you need to drink milk.

  • Raw chicken meat has a 30% chance of causing food poisoning. To avoid this scenario, eat only cooked chicken.
  • Spoiled meat has an 80% chance of causing food poisoning. In this case there is no method to be able to eat it safely.
  • Puffer fish has a 100% chance of causing food poisoning. In this case you will lose 1.5 "Hunger" points per second for 15 seconds. Your character will also experience 4th level poisoning, which causes a decrease in "Health" points. Puffer fish cannot be cooked.
  • If eaten, spider eyes have a 100% chance of causing poisoning. In this case, your character's health level will drop by 2 full hearts.

Advice

  • If you have a cake in your inventory, before you can eat it, you will need to place it on a flat surface (7 servings can be made from each cake).
  • Milk (obtainable by selecting a cow with the right mouse button while holding a bucket) restores the player's normal health by eliminating any type of effect. Milk is also an ingredient for the preparation of cakes.
  • In Minecraft it is possible to eat even while climbing a mountain.

Warnings

  • Spoiled meat, spider eyes, raw chicken and poisonous potatoes have a high probability of causing food poisoning, so avoid eating these elements.
  • However, it is possible to support the breeding of wolves by feeding them spoiled meat, so it is a useful ingredient in any case.
