Being able to read books anytime, anywhere is one of the great benefits of owning an iPad. However, ebooks are produced in different formats which may require different applications to be viewed and read. Read on to find out how to put ebooks of various formats on your iPad.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Download eBooks with iBooks
Step 1. Turn on your iPad
Once the device is ready for use, look for an app called iBooks. It comes standard with most iPads and is easily recognized by the book icon on it.
You may have to navigate to several pages on your device before you find the iBooks app
Step 2. Download iBooks
If you can't find the app on your iPad, you'll need to download it through the App Store. To do this, just tap the App Store application. Then enter iBooks in the search bar. Once you've found the results, tap the small rectangular Get button next to the app.
- If the iBooks app is already on your tablet, but you haven't been able to locate it, the App Store will tell you.
- If you already have the app, you will see only one option: Open iBooks. Tap it to launch iBooks.
Step 3. Launch iBooks
If you were able to find iBooks on your tablet, tap on the app to open iBooks. When you are in the books screen, you will see some categories of Apple books: Favorites, Bestsellers, Popular on iBooks, Books Made on Movies and others.
If you don't have a particular book in mind, it's always a good idea to browse the book offerings. You may come across something you like
Step 4. Search for a specific book
Look at the upper right corner of the iBooks screen and locate the search bar. Type the title of the desired book or just the author.
Step 5. Download your book
Once you have found the book you were looking for, through the search option, hit the small rectangle next to the eBook icon to download it. Your iPad will ask you to log in to iTunes with your password. Enter it, then tap OK.
- If the book is free to download, the rectangle will display GET.
- If the book is to be purchased, the rectangle will display the price inside.
Step 6. Find your book on iBooks
When you have completed the download process, look on the left side of your iBook screen. The options furthest to the left will display My Books. Tap on it to view the downloaded book.
Step 7. Read your book
Simply tap on the book of your choice and the iBook will launch. To turn pages, just swipe your finger from right to left on your device screen.
Method 2 of 4: Download eBooks with iTunes
Step 1. Tap the iTunes app
Another way to download books to iPad is by going through iTunes. Tap the iTunes app and look for the search bar in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 2. Search for your book
In the search bar, type the title or author of your book (depending on your search preferences). Once you have entered your search criteria, you will see different categories at the top of the screen. One of the categories will be Books. Tap it to view books only.
Step 3. Buy or get your book
Once you've located it, tap the small rectangle next to it. It will say GET or it will specify the price. Confirm the iTunes password, then tap OK.
Step 4. Launch iBooks
To view your book, you will need to launch iBooks. Go to the iBooks app on iPad, then tap it to view your book. A list of your downloaded books will be displayed. Choose the book you want to read, tap it and start reading.
Step 5. Download iBooks
If you can't find the app on your iPad, you'll need to download it through the App Store. To do this, just tap the App Store application. After that, enter iBooks in the search bar. When the results appear, tap the GET button next to the app.
- If the iBooks app is already on your tablet, but you haven't been able to locate it, the App Store will tell you.
- If you already have the iBooks app, you will see only one option: Open iBooks. Tap it to launch iBooks.
Method 3 of 4: Download eBooks with the Kindle App
Step 1. Tap the App Store application
On your iPad, go to the App Store and tap it to start it. Look to the far right side of the screen and locate the search bar.
Step 2. Type Kindle in the search bar
After searching for Kindle, you will see a list of applications. Go to the first result with the Kindle icon and tap the small rectangle next to it that says GET (the Kindle app is free). Now the rectangle will turn green with the word INSTALL.
The Kindle is a closed format that is only supported by Amazon products. However, the Kindle makes an app available, found on the App Store, for reading books on the iPad
Step 3. Click on Install
The system will ask you to confirm the iTunes password. Enter it in the space provided, then tap OK.
Step 4. Log in to the Kindle app
You will be able to see the download status of the Kindle app on your screen. Once the download is complete, the small rectangle next to the Kindle app will display OPEN. Tap on it to launch the app.
Step 5. Enter your Amazon account email address and password
If you don't have an Amazon account, simply go to Amazon.it and create an account. It is required to use the Kindle app, fast and free.
Step 6. Go to Amazon.co.uk
On Safari, type amazon.it. Then look at the far right corner of the Amazon screen and move your finger over the Sign in option. Right under the yellow box, you will see the word «New Customer? Start here ». Touch it.
Step 7. Follow the registration procedure
You will be asked a few simple questions to create a user profile. Fill in all the spaces, then click on Create Account.
- Note: You must purchase books through Amazon.co.uk to read them on your Kindle app.
- Go to Amazon.co.uk to purchase an ebook.
Step 8. Search for your book
At the top of the Amazon page, you will see a search bar. Next to it, you will see the first search category displayed as All. Tap it to see more search options, then select Books.
Step 9. Type in the title or author of your book
Enter the title or author of the book in the search bar and press the orange Go button. You will see a list of books matching the search criteria. Each book result also has options, such as Hard Cover, Paperback, and Kindle Edition. Press on Kindle Edition.
Step 10. Press 'Buy It Now' to the right of the book
Once you have tapped 'Buy Now' or 'Buy with a Click', you will need to select the device to which the book will be delivered. Select your iPad and then tap Continue.
- Shortly after selecting your iPad as the delivery device of choice, a new screen will appear informing you that the ebook is waiting in your Kindle library. Right below this message, you will have the option to tap on 'Go to Kindle for iPad'. Tap it to automatically launch the Kindle app.
- Your newly downloaded book will be marked as New.
Method 4 of 4: Download eBooks in PDF Format
Step 1. Open Safari
It is actually very easy to read PDFs on the iPad browser. Simply open your browser and type the title of the PDF you want to view in the search bar.
Step 2. Tap the document you want to read
When the search results appear on your screen, tap the PDF you want to read. You will automatically open the file and you can read it on your iPad.
Note that your PDF book cannot be saved. You can only read / view it until you close the browser
Step 3. Save your book in PDF
To keep PDF files on your iPad, simply tap the PDF file anywhere while you are viewing it on the browser. Look at the far right corner and choose one of two options: Open In iBooks or Open In
- Selecting Open In iBooks will automatically save the file for later reading in iBooks.
- Open In will give you the various locations to save the PDF to, including the Kindle app.
- Now you will be able to recover your book / PDF file anytime you want directly through the reading applications.
