If you have a persistent relative or friend who is obsessed with cats harassing you on Instagram, you'll be happy to know that you can block them from accessing your account! While it's not possible to "delete" followers in the traditional sense of the term, you can block them so they can't see your profile. You can also make your account private, so as to avoid attracting other unwanted followers in the future.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Blocking Followers
Step 1. Press the Instagram app to open the program
If you are using a computer, visit the Instagram website.
You will need to log in with your account credentials if you haven't already
Step 2. Log in to your profile page
To do this, press or click the person-shaped icon; mobile platform users will find it in the lower right corner of the screen.
If you are using the computer, you will find this icon in the upper right corner of the screen
Step 3. Press or click "Followers"
You should find it to the right of the profile picture.
Step 4. Check the list of your followers
You can't revoke a user's follower status, but you can block them, preventing them from viewing your account.
Step 5. Click or press the follower you want to delete
His profile will open, from which you can block him.
Step 6. Press the menu with the three dots icon
You'll find it at the top right of the screen (or to the right of your name on your computer).
On Android, this menu icon has three vertical dots instead of horizontal ones
Step 7. Click or press "Block User"
On the Instagram site you will find the option "Block this user". After clicking, the site will ask you for confirmation.
Step 8. Click or press "Yes, I'm sure"
You will block the selected user, who will no longer be able to see your posts!
- The user you blocked will still be able to see your comments on other people's photos and will still be able to search for your account; however, he will not be able to access it.
- You can view the list of blocked users at any time by going to the Settings menu and selecting the "Blocked users" tab.
Step 9. Repeat this for all followers you want to block
If you want to prevent unwanted users from becoming your followers in the future, you can make your account "Private"; this way you will have to approve requests before a user can view your profile.
Part 2 of 2: Making Your Account Private
Step 1. Open the Instagram app on your smartphone
By making your account "Private", all users who want to become your followers will have to send you a request; you will be the only one who has the opportunity to approve these requests. This gives you more control over who has access to your profile.
- By making your account "Private", you will prevent users from accessing your comments and "Likes", with the sole exception of public posts (in which your name will appear next to the other "Likes", but your profile will still be protected).
- It is not possible to change your account status from your computer.
Step 2. Open your profile, if you haven't already
Press the person icon in the lower right corner of your phone screen.
You can also follow these steps on tablets
Step 3. Open your account settings menu
Press the gear (iOS) or three-dot (Android) icon in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 4. Scroll down to the "Accounts" group
They are a series of tabs dedicated to your profile options; you will find the item "Private account" at the bottom of the section.
Step 5. Move the switch next to "Private Account" to On
It should change from gray to blue, indicating the success of the operation!
- If you want to disable this setting, turn the switch back to "Off" and press "Ok" in the confirmation window.
- Note that your current followers are not affected by this change. To block some of them, you have to do it manually.
Advice
- Blocked users cannot see your photos in their "Favorite Photos" tab.
- Likes and comments from blocked users will still be visible on your images, but you can delete them manually if you wish.
