In many homes today there are 5-6 different remote controls. It could happen that they stop working for no good reason. Most remote controls use infrared diodes for signal transmission. The human eye cannot see infrared light, but a video camera lens can. Thanks to this tutorial you will find out how you can check the actual operation of your remote control.
Steps
Step 1. Collect any remote controls that are no longer working, as well as a digital video camera or your mobile phone if it has one
Step 2. Turn on the digital video camera
The only thing you will need to do is observe what the camera captures during the procedure.
Step 3. Turning off the room lighting is not necessary, but it may help to visualize the infrared signal output
Step 4. Point the remote control at the camera lens, as if you were pointing it at the television
Step 5. Press and hold any button on the remote control while looking at the camera screen
Note: Some buttons may not transmit a valid signal. The best button for this test is the one related to turning the device off / on.
Step 6. As you press the button on the remote control and watch the camera shoot, you may see a bluish light
If so, it means that the remote control is working correctly. In this case there may be a connection problem (for example, if it is a universal remote control, try to configure it again or point it in the correct direction).
Advice
- This procedure also allows you to detect infrared security cameras or active infrared sensors for alarm systems. However, it will not work in the case of passive infrared sensors, which are cheaper and often more popular.
- Try a universal remote.
- It might help to ask a second person to operate the remote while you shoot.
- Try changing the batteries.
