PDFs are great for protecting the integrity of a document, but they can be problematic when it comes to printing them. Before printing a PDF, you must be able to open it. See step one to learn how, and the next section for troubleshooting common problems.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Print a PDF
Step 1. Download a PDF reader
Adobe allows you to download a free program from its site. You can also download players from various other developers. If you'd rather not download a reader, most browsers allow you to open PDFs.
Step 2. Open the PDF
Use the player or open it in the browser by dragging the file into the window.
Step 3. Click "File" and then "Print"
This will open a window with various options. Some readers and browsers have a "Print" button at the top or bottom of the document without having to go to the File menu.
Step 4. Choose the printer
In the print window, you will be able to choose the printer to use. This is especially important if you are in a context with more than one printer.
- Check that the selected printer is connected to the computer or network you are using and that it is working perfectly.
- Sufficient paper should be loaded in the printer.
Step 5. Set the print parameters
If your PDF has more than one page and you only need a few, use the related options to indicate which pages to send to the printer.
Step 6. Choose any advanced printing options
Choose the advanced features by clicking on "Properties". Here various changes can be made to the layout, finishing and other parts of the PDF. In addition, this is where you can choose whether to print in color or black and white.
- The location of the functions will vary depending on the software you are using to open the PDF.
- In Adobe Reader, a front cover as well as a back cover can be printed from the "Cover" panel. In addition, to save ink / toner, the "Saving" option can be selected under "Quality". This will slightly lower the quality of the final print. Another way to save paper is to print on both sides by selecting the relevant option in the “Print Type” panel.
Step 7. Print the document
Once all the print options have been set, you can send the file to the printer by clicking the "Print" button. Your document will be added to the print list.
Method 2 of 2: Fix a PDF with printing problems
Step 1. Check the printer
Before trying external software, make sure your printer is properly connected and has enough ink and paper to print. The paper may also be jammed, blocking the printer.
Step 2. Try another document
Try printing something else, like a Word file. If the document prints normally, then the problem is the PDF. If the document does not print, then the printer may be out of order.
Step 3. Update the printer software
Some printers have difficulty with PDFs before they are updated. Visit the printer manufacturer's website to check for updates, then download and install them.
Step 4. Try printing the PDF on another printer
This could solve the problem if the first printer is not compatible.
Step 5. Convert the PDF to another format
If nothing else works, you can convert it to.jpg. This way the printer should print it smoothly.
