Knowing the status of the battery is strictly necessary to avoid running serious and / or irreversible risks that would ruin your computer, making it unusable and obsolete. Here's how to find out if a battery is in good health or if it needs to be replaced or fixed.
Steps
Step 1. Open Command Prompt:
- Windows 7: type CMD in the 'start' window (the window with the Windows symbol)
- Windows 8 and 10: open the 'start' window and click on 'run'. A new window will open in which to type CMD.
Step 2. Type "powercfg / energy" in the black window that just opened
Step 3. Press the enter key on your computer keyboard
This will start the battery analysis which will take place in 60 seconds.
Do not execute any other commands before the scan is finished
Step 4. Check the general results from the analysis screen once the scan is finished

To view the detailed scan the command prompt has automatically created a file (which name will be indicated) and saved it to your computer. Then search for the file in your main documents or folders and open it. A lot of data will be shown in the file, but there are only two that you need to focus on:
- Nominal capacity
- Last refill capacity
- If the data is the same or if the difference is minimal, the battery is in good health. If, on the other hand, the results differ by more than 10% -15% (of the value of the greater sum) then it must be adjusted or replaced. The greater the difference, the more the battery is at risk.
