You cannot drive the car if you do not know how to park it. If you want to know how to do it in different situations, you have to approach the parking lot slowly, position the car correctly and know how to turn the wheels. If you want to learn, follow these steps.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Park Forward with Manual Transmission
Step 1. Direct the car to the pitch
Move the steering wheel left or right to bring the car to the area you have identified. You must approach at a speed not exceeding 10 km / h.
Step 2. Put your foot lightly on the brake
It will help you enter the parking lot at the right speed and not go beyond your goal. This is especially important if you are parking in front of a wall. This way you will keep control of the car.
Step 3. Enter the parking space
Be careful not to hit the curb or other cars. Focus on the perception of depth: you must have a clear idea of how close the objects around you are.
Step 4. Brake
Once the car is in the parking lot, you must start braking firmly to bring the car to a complete stop.
Step 5. Turn the wheels in the right direction
Keep your foot on the brake as you do this. If the parking space is tight, keep them straight. If you parked on a hill, turn the wheels towards the center of the road, if you parked on a hill, turn them towards the curb. This will prevent your car from sliding down in case the brakes break.
Step 6. Put in neutral
Step 7. Apply the handbrake
Method 2 of 5: Park Forward with Automatic Transmission
Step 1. Direct the car to the pitch
Move the steering wheel left or right to bring the car to the area. You must approach at a speed not exceeding 10 km / h.
If the car is straight in front of the parking lot, this part is easy. If you have to enter a space between two cars perpendicular to your direction, you have to make a large enough arc to be able to turn. When you do it for the first time, you have the feeling of missing the target and crashing into the car furthest away from you. Brake gently and turn the steering wheel towards the parking lot for easy entry
Step 2. Brake slightly
It will help you keep control of the car.
Step 3. Enter the parking space
Keep your foot on the brake so as not to go further.
Step 4. Brake
Instead of doing it gently, you have to press firmly to make the car come to a complete stop.
Step 6. Place the shift lever in “Park (P)”
Step 7. Apply the handbrake
Method 3 of 5: Rear Park with Manual Transmission
Step 1. Put the back
When you are at the right distance from the parking space to start backing up, put the car in reverse.
Step 2. Brake slightly
It will help you keep control of the car.
Step 3. Direct the car to the pitch
When you do it in the back, you have to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction from where you want to go; if you want the car to go right, turn the steering wheel to the left. If the car is straight in front of the parking space, you are in a lucky position and you don't have to change direction.
Step 4. Enter the parking lot
When the car is in the right direction, release the pressure on the brake a little and give it some gas to get into the parking space.
Step 5. Brake
It is time to stop the car completely.
Step 6. Put the first or leave the car in the back
If the last thing you did during the parking maneuvers was to back up, leave the car in the back. This will prevent the car from moving by itself in case the brakes break. Many people do not take this precaution and leave the gear in neutral.
Step 7. Apply the handbrake
Method 4 of 5: Parking in the Rear with the Automatic Transmission
Step 1. Put the shift lever to “Reverse (R)”
When you are about a car away (or more) from the parking space you should start the maneuver in the back.
Step 2. Apply light pressure on the brake
It will help you keep control of the car.
Step 3. Direct the car to the parking lot
It could be a bit complicated, because you have to turn the wheels in the opposite direction to where you want to go. If you want the car to go left you have to turn the steering wheel to the right.
Step 4. Enter the parking lot
Check the mirrors before starting to back up, or better yet, put your arm around the passenger seat and look behind you. You will have a better idea of where your car is going and the space available.
Step 5. Brake firmly
When the machine is in the right place, brake to bring it to a complete stop.
Step 6. Put the shift lever in “Park (P)”
Step 7. Apply the handbrake
Method 5 of 5: Park "S"
Step 1. Check the rearview mirrors
Make sure there are no cars behind you. If there are any, wait for them to pass you or pull over and then approach the parking space.
Step 2. Put the arrow
It will let other drivers know that you are parking.
Step 3. Slow down
You have to maneuver at a walking pace. If you use a car with an automatic gearbox, just brake gently, if you use a car with a manual gearbox, shift down and brake a bit.
Step 4. Place the car parallel to the car in front of the free seat
You should stand at about 30 centimeters, otherwise you risk hitting the car when you start to back away.
Step 5. Put the back
Step 6. Back off
Always check your mirrors to make sure you have free space. Look around before starting the maneuver.
Step 7. Turn the wheels towards the curb
Step 8. Give it some gas
If you use an automatic transmission it is not necessary. If you have a manual gearbox, release the clutch slowly and lightly squeeze the accelerator. If you are parking on a slope, just keep the clutch pressed and release the brake just a little: the car will start to roll back.
Step 9. Go back until your car is about halfway through the parking space
Step 10. Steer in the opposite direction, towards the center of the road
Keep backing up until you are fully in the parking space. You may not succeed on the first try. You will have to back up with the wheels turned towards the center of the road, then go forward as you steer towards the curb, repeat until the car is in place.
Step 11. Park
Put the first if you are using a manual car or put the gear lever on "Park (P)" if you are using an automatic.
Step 12.
Step 13. Put first
Go on until the car is well positioned between the cars in front of and behind you.
Step 14. Apply the handbrake
Advice
- Make sure you drive slowly. If the car is manual, keep first gear, if it is automatic, keep the gear lever in "D4" and do not shift to "2".
- Check that the car is perfectly parked in the space. Check that it is in the middle, parallel to the lines and not too close to the lane.
- If it's not perfect, fix it.
