Have you ever gotten into your car, started it and noticed that the clutch pedal is broken? The clutch is engaged, but you can't press the pedal? Do not worry! This article shows how to drive the car even in these conditions, as long as the starter motor is activated even without pressing the pedal! Hydraulic clutches do not allow this technique because the starter does not activate, preventing the engine from starting when the clutch pedal Not is pressed.
Steps
Step 1. Avoid trying the method described in the article
It is very likely that the gearbox and starter motor will get damaged.
Step 2. Turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, unlock the steering and release the brake
Engage reverse or first gear, turn the steering wheel if necessary, turn the key to the "start" position and release it quickly; the car should jump a little. You should only proceed outdoors and in a parking space parallel to the direction of travel.
Step 3. Hold the shift lever in first gear and turn the key again to start the engine
The car should jump a little, but still start.
Step 4. Drive and accelerate as usual
Step 5. Shift the shift lever from first to second gear by pushing it without pressing the clutch
You have to exert some force; maybe the mechanisms will screech, but eventually you should find the point where the lever slides in the new ratio.
- To shift to the next gear, bring the engine to approximately 500-1000 rpm above idle speed and shift gears.
- To downshift, put the lever in neutral, accelerate slightly and then engage the lower gear; this is a much more difficult procedure than selecting a higher gear, but in the end you can do it.
Step 6. When you need to stop, turn off the engine
Advice
- Try to change route to avoid having to stop on a hill, the starter motor cannot push on a slope.
- In some vehicles it is impossible to downshift, apart from shifting to second gear when the speed is below 15 km / h.
- Use this technique as a last resort.
