When your car is in the sun for a long time, it can get very hot. To cool it down quickly, open and close the door several times in quick succession. Get in your car, start driving and immediately turn on the air conditioning to the lowest possible temperature. Leave the windows open for the first few seconds, then close them when the car is cooler.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Open the Doors and Turn on the Air Conditioning
Step 1. Open a window and one of the doors
Lower the window on the passenger side. Then, get out of the car and open the door on the driver's side. By rolling the window down, you will be able to create a low pressure zone that will suck the hot air out of the car and blow cooler air inside.
Step 2. Quickly open and close the door
Stop just before closing it completely. Repeat 6-8 times, then get into the car.
Step 3. Start the car
Since the air conditioning only works well if the air moves over the condenser, it is not very effective when the car is stationary. If you drive for a few minutes, you will be able to cool the car more quickly.
Step 4. Turn on the air conditioning while driving
Set the temperature to the minimum and the fan speed to the maximum.
- Avoid using air recirculation until the car's interior temperature is lower than the outside temperature, then switch to recirculation.
- As soon as you turn on the air conditioning in a hot car, you will likely feel a blast of hot air. After a few minutes, however, the temperature will begin to drop.
Step 5. Roll down the windows
Keep them open for a minute or two to let the hot air from the air conditioner escape and circulate the air. When the air conditioning has cooled the car sufficiently, raise the windows and keep them closed.
Method 2 of 2: Prevent the car from heating up
Step 1. Park in the shade
If possible, always park under a tree, in the shade of a building, or in another cool spot. If you park inside a structure, avoid the top floor (if it is not protected by a roof).
Step 2. Buy a parasol
You can easily find these folding windshield covers on the market. To use the sun visor, place it inside the windshield of your car. You can hold it in place by lowering the sun visors.
- The most effective sunshades are coated with reflective chrome, which deflects the sun's rays away from your vehicle.
- Some sun visors have small suction cups at the corners that make them adhere better to the windshield. You can also use models of this type on the windows.
- Sunshade your windshield or windows exposed to the sun (if your sunshade is only suitable for use on the windshield, park with the hood facing the sun).
- You can use more than one sun visor, but not on the door where you will need to get out of the car.
- Lower the flaps to hold the front sunshade in place and to reflect the light entering from above.
- Be careful, because the sun visors can end up in the driver's face or out the window once the car is moving with the windows down. Fold them and hold them in place with a heavy object, such as shoes, or hold them on your thighs to prevent the problem.
Step 3. Open the windows
Leaving the windows slightly open allows air to continue flowing into the car, preventing it from getting very hot compared to the outside temperature.
- Try to leave more windows open (about 2-3 cm) to get a better effect, especially if you can create a draft.
- Do not open the window if you are afraid it might rain.
- One of the risks of leaving the windows open is that a burglar could open the door using a coat hanger or similar tool, so be careful.
Step 4. Cover the seats
If you have dark, brown or black seats, your car will absorb more heat than one with a lighter or more vibrant interior. To remedy this problem, purchase white or other light colored seat covers.
