The cat costume is very popular on any occasion when it is necessary to dress up. You can make it without spending too much money by creating the various pieces with material available at home. The ears are an important part of the costume. You can use cardstock to make a simple pair of cat ears. If you prefer them more realistic, you can use cardboard and fur felt.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Making the Paper Ears

Step 1. Collect the supplies

To make a pair of cat ears using paper, you will only need clear tape, construction paper (one piece will do), a ruler, a pair of scissors and a hairband. You can use glue instead of duct tape if you don't have the clear one.

Use a headband similar to your hair color so that it blurs when you put on the costume

Step 2. Draw the ears

Draw two equilateral triangles on the construction paper. 7cm on each side is a great length for this type of ears. After drawing the triangle, add just over 1cm on the bottom. This way you can wrap your ears around the headband.

Step 3. Cut out the ears

Use the scissors to cut out the ears. Line them up to make sure they are the same size. Once they are equal in size, make an upward crease of just over an inch along the bottom.

Step 4. Attach the ears to the headband

Insert the headband into the crease of your ears so that it fits snugly. If you use duct tape, simply fold your ears around the headband and stick them with duct tape. If you intend to glue them, apply the glue along the crease of the ears on the inside of the headband.

Hot glue will fix the ears better. However, if you use a plastic headband, be careful not to burn the material

Step 5. Make them fix

If you have glued ears, wait longer than it takes for the glue to stick. If you've used duct tape, you're ready to wear them! If you want to add an extra touch, try cutting out an equilateral triangle out of white paper, with sides 3, 8 cm long. Apply tape or glue from the center of the ears.

Method 2 of 2: Make a Pair of Hairy Ears

Step 1. Collect the supplies

To make a pair of furry cat ears, you will need two paper clips, fur felt, cardboard, glue (hot or fabric glue will work best), a ruler and a pair of scissors. The bobby pins are too thin for this job, so make sure you have a few clips at least 1.30cm wide. It is better to use flat, French or spouts.

Step 2. Cut out the ears

You need to cut both the cardboard and the fabric that will line your ears. You can make them triangular or oval depending on the look you want to achieve. For triangular ones, cut two equilateral triangles out of cardboard.

Step 3. Cut out the fabric

Wrap it around the cardboard pieces to take the shape you need. Draw a line where you want to cut them, from the inside of the fabric. Add 1.20 cm to this pattern and cut the fabric.

Step 4. Glue the fabric to the cardboard

Take the fabric and glue it around the cardboard ears. It will be better if you wrap it on top and glue it to the base of the ears.

Step 5. Fold the base of the ears to the back of the triangles about 1.5 cm

Step 6. Glue the clips to the base of the ears

At the bottom of the back of the ears, apply hot glue to secure the clips. Glue the ears to the top of the clasp - the bottom will contact your head when you wear your creation.

Step 7. Let the glue dry and put on your ears

Once it dries, braid your hair. Place the clips over the rubber bands in a place that allows you to comfortably wear cat ears.
