No vampire look is complete without the typical fangs. If you like DIY, try making your own fangs instead of buying them at a costume shop. You can make them for example with a straw or buy specific materials or even create realistic and tailor-made fangs. If, on the other hand, you prefer a slightly simpler technique, but with a great result, you can try false nails and dental wax.

Method 1 of 5: Turn False Nails into Fangs
Step 1. Purchase fake nails and dental wax
Choose nails with a color shade similar to that of your natural teeth. You can find them in beauty shops and dental wax in pharmacies. Alternatively, get some denture adhesive.
Step 2. Cut the nails into a triangle
Use a pair of scissors for this and first place the nail against your teeth to get a rough idea of how to style it.
Step 3. File the edge of the nails to sharpen them
Use a special file and try to perfect the fang shape. Do this on a sheet of newspaper to collect all the fake nail dust that the file removes.
Step 4. Put a drop of denture adhesive on the back of the fang
Place the fang directly on your natural tooth by applying gentle pressure for about 5 minutes to allow the glue to solidify. Repeat the process for the other fang.
If you can't find false nails with a similar color to your teeth, do a search online. Your dentist could help you with dental glue or wax
Method 2 of 5: Fangs Obtained from a Straw
Step 1. Get a white plastic straw
Ideally, the color matches the natural color of your teeth, but whitening toothpaste or other similar products can help you mask the difference in hue with the milky-white straw.
It is a quick and easy method, the fangs will attach and detach without difficulty
Step 2. Cut a small piece of straw
If it's a collapsible straw, cut it at the top just above the gusseted section. If it is a normal straw, simply cut it 5 cm with a pair of scissors. Alternatively, fit the straw between your teeth and check in the mirror how long you would like the fangs to be, then cut a segment twice as long.
Step 3. Fold the segment in half and cut it out in the shape of sharp teeth
Use the scissors and try to shape the two ends of the straw just as if they were vampire fangs. Don't separate the two pieces, so you can compare the shapes and make sure they're symmetrical.
Do not cut near the crease. That is the area that will cover the natural teeth and must be left intact otherwise the fangs will come off
Step 4. Separate the two fangs and put them on
Use the crease as a reference and with scissors cut the two fangs; Place them on the canines or on the incisors on the sides of the larger front teeth.
Method 3 of 5: Custom Acrylic Fangs
Step 1. Gather all the material
You will be able to make realistic vampire fangs with this technique, but you will need more money and time. Here's what you need to get:
- Alginate, available at dental stores, online, and some craft stores.
- A paper cup or mouthguard.
- Plastic resin for molding or another similar material. You can find it in hobby and fine art stores.
- Modeling clay and a small tool to shape it, both available at fine art stores.
- Nail acrylic (biphasic powder and liquid). You can buy it at beauty shops, or get dental acrylic.
- Vaseline, available in all supermarkets.
Step 2. Cut out the paper cup to make a mouthguard
Cut the top of the glass with a clean pair of scissors. The remaining base should be slightly larger than your upper jaw. Cut one side of the glass to create an opening that allows you to put it in your mouth.
Skip this step if you have a mouthguard available or decide to buy one
Step 3. Mix the alginate and transfer it to the mouthguard
Read the instructions on the package for specific information, as the techniques and resting times may vary from product to product. In most cases you have to mix a part of alginate with the same amount of water in a small dish, mix the two ingredients with a utensil of your choice. Transfer the mixture to the mouthguard when done.
You have to work pretty fast when using alginate. A mold made with this material breaks within a few hours
Step 4. Press your upper jaw teeth into alginate
Place the compound-filled mouthguard on your upper arch and remove it by pulling downwards after 3 minutes. You should have left the negative mold of your teeth in the mixture, you will need this in the next stage of preparation. If bubbles have formed or there are any broken areas in the mold that interfere with the line of your arch, you will need to repeat this step.
- Do not push the mouthguard so far that the base of the mouthguard is in contact with the teeth.
- Wait for the alginate to start solidifying before removing it.
- If you want to know exactly when you can remove the alginate, put a drop on your fingers and wait for it to become solid.
Step 5. Mix the two-phase molding resin or similar material you have purchased
You can use any plastic molding material, but this method gives you instructions for biphasic resin. In a glass or plastic dish, combine 90ml of one liquid component of the resin with 90ml of the other liquid component. Mix well with a stick or other kitchen utensil.
Choose a quick-setting resin. Make sure it's non-toxic when dry
Step 6. Pour the resin into the alginate mold as soon as the two components are well mixed
Work carefully, calmly to prevent air bubbles from getting trapped in the mold. Wait for everything to dry before continuing.
- After several minutes, the resin should become very hot and white. Do not touch it with your bare hands.
- When the resin has become cold and hard to the touch, wait another 10 minutes before taking it out of the mold. This way you can be sure that the inner part has also stabilized well and that the teeth are solid.
Step 7. Model the fangs
Detach the plastic model of your upper jaw once you are sure it is dry. Add some clay to the teeth which will become fangs. At this point, shape the clay with a sharp tool to give it the shape of vampire teeth.
If you wish, you can add a small clay "hood" over the teeth just behind the fangs to make them even more stable
Step 8. Immerse the model in soapy water
Take care to completely submerge it and wait 10 minutes. This will prevent the alginate from sticking to the clay in the later stages.
Step 9. Make a second mold with alginate
Proceed exactly as before but, this time, press the mouthguard onto the resin model and not your teeth. Press gently to avoid moving or damaging the clay fangs. Lift the mouthguard once the alginate is dry. Make sure there are no bubbles or broken parts.
Step 10. Remove the clay fangs and clean the model with petroleum jelly
Try to cover it with an even layer of petroleum jelly, without lumps. Work with a cotton ball and don't miss any points. The petroleum jelly will help you detach the acrylic fangs once they dry.
Step 11. Prepare the nail acrylic
Combine the acrylic powder with its liquid component and mix carefully using disposable tools, these should not be reused. Keep stirring for several minutes until the acrylic becomes a paste. When you lift the stick, a thick, sticky strip of material should form. Add more powder if you find that the mixture is too liquid or add more liquid component if not.
- The acrylic gets very hot as you mix. Avoid direct skin contact.
- Work in a well-ventilated area.
Step 12. Pour the acrylic into the holes left by the fangs in the alginate mold
Work slowly to prevent air bubbles from forming, stop when the holes are nearly full.
Step 13. Press the resin model into the acrylic-filled alginate mold
Do this after removing the clay fangs from the model, the teeth of the model will come into contact with the acrylic and the fangs will harden around them adapting to the shape of your teeth. You can monitor the leftover acrylic in the bowl to estimate when the fangs will be hard. Gently remove the model when the acrylic is almost completely dry but still a little rubbery. It must keep its shape and at the same time come out of the mold easily.
Step 14. Detach the acrylic fangs and put them on
In theory they should fit snugly against your teeth and stick with only light pressure from your index finger as you suck in a little with your mouth.
If the fangs are not in place, you can secure them with a little denture adhesive, orthodontic wax or a small piece of chewing gum
Method 4 of 5: Homemade Alternatives
Step 1. Make vampire fangs out of cotton balls.
You can cut wet cotton balls and make them fit and size to fit your upper teeth to quickly create fangs.
Step 2. Create vampire fangs using cotton swabs.
Cut out the cotton part of the stick and attach it to your teeth with nail glue.
Step 3. Model vampire fangs with non-toxic clay
Shape the clay into a pointed cone or tusk and fit it to your tooth. Let the clay harden before using the fangs as part of your costume.
Step 4. Make the most of your appliance by using appliance wax
If you have braces but still want vampire fangs, you can easily make them by molding the wax into a fang shape and wedging it between the canines and the braces cables.

Step 5. Cut out the fangs from a white plastic bottle
If the plastic hasn't come into contact with anything toxic, you can cut fangs from the bottle and stick them to your teeth.
Method 5 of 5: Simple Fangs with a Fork
Step 1. Break off the two center prongs of a fork
Use your fingers to gently bend the two center teeth of a white plastic fork until they snap at the base.
- If the teeth don't crack at the base, use a clean, sharp pair of scissors or a clean Swiss army knife to cut the excess plastic.
- Instead of trying to break teeth with your hands, you could use scissors or a small knife right away.
Step 2. Cut the fork handle
Use scissors or a small knife to cut the fork handle by making a straight horizontal cut.
- Eventually you will cut a lot more than just the handle. Cut the fork about halfway down the handle where it starts to sag.
- The remaining pieces should be rather square and not rounded.
- Make sure that the scissors or Swiss army knife you will use are clean and disinfected well before using them, because you will have to put the plastic in your mouth after cutting it.
Step 3. Apply dental wax along the fang bridge
Place a small drop of appliance or denture wax on the horizontal bridge of the remaining fork piece. You can buy these products at the pharmacy or online.

Step 4. Attach the fangs to your upper dental arch
Turn the part with the wax inward. Press gently to set the wax and plastic teeth.
