Whether you are at the club, at a school party or at a birthday party, you are unlikely to not hear "Stanky Legg" all night. GS Boyz gained huge popularity in their country for their independent viral YouTube video called Stanky Legg in 2008, and even today many continue to dance to this song. The dance is very simple. You have to lift one leg, dance in the opposite direction and switch legs. After that, you can add moves using your arms (or, for girls, your glutes) or your hips. If you want to learn how to dance the Stanky Legg, start reading this guide.
Steps
Step 1. Stand with your feet apart at shoulder height
This is a good neutral position, perfect for preparing for the music you are about to hear. Make sure Stanky Legg is about to be played. Now, you can choose whether to take an expression from "something got stuck" or not; some believe that this expression is able to give something more to the performance of the dance, while others believe that it is not sexy.
Step 2. Raise your left foot
Plant it on the ground. Alternatively, you can start with the right foot - the important thing is that you keep swapping legs.
Step 3. Lean in the opposite direction
Now, lean towards your right foot with your arms and body.
Step 4. Move the “stuck” leg in a circular fashion
For now, your right leg is the "stanky" leg - the leg that is not working well. While keeping your left foot planted on the ground, you should land on the left side of the right foot. Move the foot in a circular fashion, so that the knee almost turns to the left foot planted on the ground. That's right, it's a weird feeling and it means you're doing the dance the way you should.
Step 5. Start using your arms
You can do whatever you want with your arms, as long as you move them to the rhythm of the music, bringing them towards your good leg along with the rest of your body. The most common thing, in general, or what is done in the video, is to move your arms a little bit upwards, as if you were flapping your wings, and then cross them. Repeat this one more time before switching legs, making sure you are in time to the music.
So: move your curled leg in a circular fashion, move your arms up and down twice, and keep your good leg planted on the ground before switching
Step 6. Switch legs
Now, your left leg will become the crimped leg and your right leg will become the good leg, the one planted on the ground. So make sure your right leg is firmly planted on the ground. You can switch legs simply by tilting the body to the other side, bringing the crimped leg behind you and lifting the good leg before switching, so that the legs are aligned with the shoulders. Alternatively, you can do an even more subtle movement by keeping your torso even higher before switching legs
Step 7. Keep dancing
Once you switch legs and have danced at least two bars, you can switch legs again. You don't have to switch legs after moving up and down and arms twice; you can stay on one leg longer if you want, the important thing is to have fun. The Stanky Legg is not like the Electric Slide, where every little move is coordinated. All that matters is having fun and having your legs curled up.
Step 8. Add salt and pepper
Guys can exaggerate the movements, and even move the good leg forward in front of the curled leg. Girls can shake their asses if they want, bringing their hands over their heads and then down their necks to make the dance a little sexier. If desired, everyone can get down and up before switching legs. Once you change your leg, everything else is up to you. If you want, you can add elements of the Dougie Dance. Now, hit the dance floor and show what you can do.
Warnings
- If you are not well coordinated, you will probably look like a fool.
- The dance floor could get crammed!
