Do you feel like you have two left feet? Read this article to learn how to dance without feeling ashamed, so that you can stop tapestrying parties.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Develop Your Skills
Step 1. Train at home
Put on your favorite music, close the bedroom door and dance as if nobody saw you. Stand in front of the mirror, and notice which movements are good and which are not. Even if you don't know how to dance, practicing at home will help your muscle memory kick into action so that you can dance more calmly in front of others.
- Do this at least once a week. Not only will you improve your skills, it's also a fun way to keep fit!
- Try dancing to different types of music; hip-hop, electronic, classic rock, country and blues. That way you won't be caught off guard if they put on a song you didn't expect.
Step 2. Try taking modern dance classes
Hip hop and modern dance help you become familiar with your body, and also teach you the basics of rhythm and coordination.
You could even sign up for classes like Zumba if you hit the gym
Method 2 of 2: The Basics
Step 1. Dress your best
Before you go to the party, put on your favorite clothes and look after yourself so that you look confident. The more attractive you feel, the less you will have the impression of being observed.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can dance in. Clothes that are too tight could block you while dancing and make you look like a log of wood.
- Girls should wear a soft dress so they can move comfortably while dancing. Even if you will remain impaled by moving your pelvis back and forth, the movement of the dress will make you look a little more graceful.
Step 2. Settle into the party
Once there, take some time to walk around, say hello to friends and have a drink. Looking around and settling in will make you relax and have fun. If there are already people dancing, observe them and take some mental notes.
If you are old enough to do this, have a few drinks before dancing. It will help you relax and think less. Don't overdo it though; drinking too much has side effects, and the next day you will be ashamed to death
Step 3. Listen to the music
Before you hit the dance floor, listen to the music they're playing. Find the rhythm, and start moving your head. Keeping the beat is a fundamental skill in dancing, and it helps you understand how fast to move in each song.
Step 4. Find a place to dance
If there is a group, join them. Try to get in the middle of the group so that you are not visible to the people around.
Step 5. Move your body to the beat of the music
Don't make moves you have already tried, and don't dance faster or slower. Start by stepping with your right foot, bringing it back, and then doing the same thing with your left foot.
- Keep your upper body and arms relaxed.
- Keep moving your head in time to the music.
- Don't close your knees.
- If you don't know what to do, look at others and imitate them. Don't stare though!
Step 6. Give the impression that you are enjoying yourself
The only people who are ridiculous when they dance are those who seem uncomfortable or nervous. No matter how ridiculous your steps are, if you smile or laugh or sing, you will be strong! Guaranteed!
