Deciding to be a rocker like your idols requires dedication and musicality. For some it is an innate gift, while others have to work harder. And you? Which category do you belong to?
Steps
Part 1 of 3: The Look
Step 1. Get the t-shirts of your favorite rock bands, old and new
T-shirts with slogans or advertisements, plain colors, or some concert venue are also good. With an old Jack Daniels t-shirt you will always be on the safe side. Clothing with skulls is not necessarily rock. Horizontal stripes are also suitable for a rocker, even better if black / gray or black / white.
Step 2. Put on tight or skinny pants
No matter the model, it's up to you to decide. Trousers with chains will also work fine. If you prefer to opt for low-crotch trousers, camouflage patterns or a classic pair of black jeans are a good option. Skinny, black leather pants or a nice pair of jeans will also work just fine. Make sure the latter have some tears!
Step 3. Jackets are a great finishing touch to complete your look
Those in black leather are always perfect. There is no need to spend too much money, in motorcycle shops you will be able to find cheaper and of equal quality than the designer models, and they are likely to last even longer. A plain colored hoodie (black, gray, etc.) is another viable alternative, or a striped sweatshirt (black / gray or black / white). Denim jackets will work too.
Step 4. Choose a hairstyle
Long hair (the longer, the better), short hair, medium length or shaved hair - all are fine.
Step 5. Get suitable shoes
Converse, Vans, combat boots, boots or white sneakers, choose the ones you prefer. But avoid riding boots or New Balances.
Step 6. Accessories are key to rocker style
Studded bracelets are a must. Rings are fine too, silver or with skulls and tribal patterns - feel free to wear too much. Be careful with the gold jewelry though! You don't want to be mistaken for Flava-Flav, do you? If you choose to wear sunglasses, don't spend too much money - you may still end up losing them. Good options are the Aviator and Wayfarer models.
Step 7. Hats can be a good addition
Bandanas, hats, fedoras, caps or even simple baseball caps will do just fine (just look at Tom Morello, for example).
Step 8. Wear nice shirts
Choose models that really suit "you".
Part 2 of 3: Attitude
Step 1. Try to be genuinely passionate about your style of music
Step 2. Find your personal style
Rock music is not based on standardization, but rather pushes you to sing out of the chorus, doing something that others have never even thought of. This does not mean simply acting stupid, but doing something meaningful. Remember, as Kurt Cobain (the lead singer of Nirvana) said, it's better to be dead than "cool".
- Don't copy other rockers. Avoid attitudes such as "Oh, James Hetfield combed his hair back, I'll try it too" or "David Draiman has snake teeth, now I'm going to get them!". Live your way, launch your own fashions. Above all, you need to know this genre of music. If you want to be a true rocker, you need to know what you're talking about. Look for your favorite bands on Wikipedia, read their history and people will understand that you are truly knowledgeable. Do you want to be a real rocker? It's simple, just be.
- Being a "rocker" is not a goal. You don't have to do this to appear or because it's in fashion. At least, a real "rocker" wouldn't do that. It simply means being a real rock star, or someone who wants to be a musician, whose music falls into any genre of rock (be it classic, new age, hard rock, alternative, etc.).
Step 3. Get to know the most important members of the various bands
For example: Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N 'Roses' Slash, Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, etc. Your interest would seem bogus if you don't know your favorite bands well.
Step 4. Be nice to everyone
Other people will have a better opinion of you if they believe you are nice to them. If you always behave rudely they will think that you are just a failure.
Part 3 of 3: Improve your musicality
Step 1. Learn
Try signing up for a singing class or buying a guitar, bass, keyboard, or drums and take lessons. Try to find other friends who play an instrument (the most typical ones for a rock 'n' roll band are drums, electric guitar, electric bass, vocals and keyboard) and form a band, write songs and practice!
Step 2. Be yourself
Real rockers don't pretend to be what they are not.
Step 3. Enjoy all kinds of music
Listen: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Metallica, Guns N 'Roses, Nirvana, ZZ Top, The Doobie Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Grateful Dead, The Eagles, and more.
Advice
- You can get all the necessary material in flea markets, online stores or wherever you prefer.
- Use your MP3 player to show others the music you listen to.
- Start a group with your friends, start producing demos, try to make contacts with the people who matter in the music world and who could help you achieve success!
- Being a rocker is complicated, keep that in mind when performing.
- Handkerchiefs are great for cleaning musical instruments and handy for wiping sweat away during a performance.
Warnings
- Don't be rude to others.
- If you decide to wear camouflage clothing, DO NOT EXAGGERATE. If you wear camouflage pants with a shirt, jacket and shoes of the same kind, you will feel terrible. Limit yourself to one camouflage garment at a time.
