If you or a friend need to wear diapers due to an accident or a medical problem, it takes some getting used to. Make sure it fits your body shape perfectly and take some precautions when going out in public to make sure things are going smoothly.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Wear Your Own Diaper
Step 1. Fold it properly
Before putting it on, check that it is folded the right way for its length, with the non-absorbent side facing out. Remember not to touch the inside, so as not to contaminate it. This precaution is only necessary for fabric models, it is not necessary to follow this procedure for disposable adult diapers.
Step 2. Wear it so that the front is in front and the back is on your butt
Once folded, you need to put it this way so that the narrower middle portion is between the legs. Hold the diaper in place while making any necessary adjustments. Again, be careful to prevent your hands from touching the absorbent side.
Step 3. Place the diaper in a comfortable position
Once in place, make the necessary adjustments. Many people find it much more comfortable to pull the bottom edges down, creating a kind of shorts. It can also be comfortable to adjust the edge of the waist so that it forms a line that hugs the hips.
Step 4. Secure it with tape
When in a comfortable position, use the supplied adhesive tape to hold the diaper in place. Most adult brands have four adhesive tabs: two bottom and two top. It is worth tilting them slightly upwards as this improves the fit of the device around the legs.
Step 5. Adjust the edges to your comfort needs
Once put on, make the necessary changes so that the diaper does not bother. The edges near the groin should be soft to avoid rashes and cracking. You may need to bend them up slightly so they aren't too sharp.
Part 2 of 3: Put the Diaper on Another Person
Step 1. Fold the diaper lengthwise
Make sure the non-absorbent side is facing out. Do not touch the inside if you want to avoid the risk of contamination. It may be a good idea to wear disposable gloves during the procedure.
Step 2. Put the person on their side
Ask her to lie on her side and gently tuck the diaper between her legs, so that the widest portion is facing her butt. Fan out the back for maximum coverage.
Step 3. Ask the person to roll onto their back
Help her move slowly to avoid wrinkling the diaper. Fan the front portion, as you did for the one on the butt. Make sure the diaper is not crumpled between the legs.
Step 4. Secure it with tape
When it is in a comfortable position, tape it in place. Most models have four tabs: two upper and two lower. Make sure the nappy is snug to the skin, but that it doesn't cause discomfort. You don't have to stare at it too tightly, otherwise it's annoying.
Step 5. Adjust the edges for comfort
Make sure the person feels comfortable in the diaper. You can fold the edges inward to prevent them from irritating the groin area. Ask her if she is bothered and if any changes are needed.
Part 3 of 3: Wear the Diaper Discreetly
Step 1. Find the right products
If you want to use diapers without anyone noticing, you need to spend time and attention when choosing them. Many adult models are easy to wear discreetly.
- Choose a product that fits comfortably in your purse or briefcase. Less bulky nappies are easier to hide when folded. However, be careful not to damage them as you fold them.
- Choose a product that is robust enough for your needs. If you have any doubts about this, talk to your doctor and ask for advice. He will be able to suggest you a good brand that suits your health condition.
Step 2. Make a plan to discreetly get rid of used diapers
Many people are worried about throwing these products away when they are at school, at work or running errands. Most of them fear that others will notice the presence of the diaper. In these cases, it is helpful to have a plan to dispose of it discreetly.
- Wherever you go, try to be aware of what you have at your disposal in terms of garbage bins, garbage cans, bathrooms and changing areas. This way, you can act quickly in an emergency.
- Purchase some scented garbage bags, so you can throw the diapers in the public garbage cans without noticing the smell.
- Remember that it is not possible to have a perfect solution for every type of situation; however, having a plan for the most common ones allows you to get rid of used diapers without too much "fuss".
Step 3. Choose the right clothes
Proper clothing helps hide the presence of the adult diaper. Make the best clothing decisions when you need to go out.
- Go for something akin to soft, high-waisted pants.
- A shirt tucked into your pants or that doesn't pop up can help.
Step 4. Search for support
Dealing with the need to wear a diaper can be embarrassing. Look for support groups operating in your city. You can also participate in online forums, where individuals share their experiences and offer advice on coping with incontinence.
