Sometimes you feel like you are no longer in control of your mind. Your brain continues to send you images and thoughts, even unwelcome ones. If you sometimes find that you have random thoughts that are bothering you, worrying or tormenting your sleep, continue reading this useful guide.
Steps
Step 1. Relax
This is the first and fundamental step on the path that will lead you to gain control over your mind. Sit in the quiet and concentrate on listening to a sound of nature. If your mind is showing you pictures, let it be. Watch them until you see them dissolve. Make an effort not to let them disturb you. The greater the degree of disturbance, the greater the amount of images sent from your mind. If a natural noise doesn't work and your mind sounds too loud, try focusing on a thunderous noise. Turn up the music volume, focus on the sound of a truck, overwhelm your mind.
Step 2. Tell yourself that you are what you think
Because you are what you think. Your mind is powerful, but remember that you can take control of it. Repeat it, and believe it, daily, and whenever your mind sends you a series of thoughts and images. Over time your mind will begin to hesitate and then weaken, but it is important that you believe you are the master.
Step 3. Don't give your mind too many opportunities to torment you
Distract yourself by reading, writing or drawing. If these activities don't prove effective, distract yourself with people. Nothing can heal you more than a good friend you can talk to for hours. Pick up the phone or visit him. A good friend can distract you enough and time together will provide you with the strength you need to take control of your mind.
Step 4. Pray, whichever higher entity you believe in
When the problems caused by the mind seem too big, ask for help. You will receive comfort in the toughest moments. Remember, though, that while you may find temporary relief through prayer, your goal must be to be able to control your mind.
Step 5. Remember that you used to control your mind in the past
You simply forgot how to do it. Also remember that you are not alone.
Advice
- Things will gradually improve. Don't expect to completely resolve in one day. After a few weeks you will perceive moments when your mind will stop tormenting you. These moments will extend over time to cover entire days. As the months go by, you will finally become free.
- You are in control.
