The following is a list of simple tips that will help you improve your dodgeball skills.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Part 1: Learning the Rules
Step 1. Learn all the rules of the game
The concept of the game is simple, but there are many different rules. Learn all the ones you will need to follow.
Method 2 of 3: Part 2: Cunning Tactics
Step 1. Never stand still
If you stand still, jump to get ready to dodge. Try to stay on your toes all the time.
Step 2. Practice getting quick balls
Also train yourself to get the balls thrown at your feet. These are the most common flips you will face.
Step 3. Try to throw low, so your opponents will have less chance of getting the ball
Step 4. If you aim for an opponent's mid-body, give all the strength you have to the shot, so it will be more difficult to receive it
Step 5. Pretend a throw at an opponent's feet
When he jumps, there will be a moment in which he cannot dodge. Make use of it.
Step 6. If an opponent rolls low, dodge
If your opponent shoots at half height or in the face, try to get the shot.
Step 7. If you have the ball in your hand, use it to deflect other balls thrown at you (this technique is not allowed in some leagues)
Try to deflect them up (not towards the other team) so that your teammates can grab the ball after the rebound and eliminate the player who took the shot, as well as gain possession of a ball.
Method 3 of 3: Part 3: Other Helpful Tips
Step 1. Practice jumping and splitting in the air to dodge the low balls (if you are short), and practice rolling on the ground and getting up very quickly to dodge the high balls (if you are tall)
It may also be helpful to know how to get into the push-up position and recover quickly.
Step 2. If you are a rather burly person, stand further back and let your smaller companions dodge the blows
You will have more time to react and move, and your power shots will not be negatively affected by the greater distance.
Step 3. Keep your eyes on the closest opponents, but stay out of their line of sight
When they throw at one of your teammates, shoot at them if they don't know your position.
Step 4. If you know someone is trying to kill you, try doing the same to them
Step 5. After aiming for the legs several times, stop doing it
Your opponents will expect a shot in the legs and try to catch it. Try to aim for the chest or feint.
Advice
- If your teammate is much better at shooting than you, pass him the ball! Team play is key to dodgeball.
- Always aim for the legs, it's much easier and you won't need a very powerful shot.
- Always double knot your shoes.
- It is not essential to catch the balls that are thrown towards you. If you think you can't get a shot, let it pass.
- Don't fall into the "lob and shoot" feint. This is an old but still effective tactic. So be careful!
- If you want to take out an opponent quickly, and you have two balls, throw one in the air to distract him and hit him with the other.
- Take care of the grip of your shoes by dusting the soles often between games. The increase in traction will allow you to move more easily on the field.
- To distract your opponent, try yelling when you throw the ball. You will make everyone believe that you are obsessed with the game.
- Do 10 minutes of warm-up or stretches before a game.
- Using less skilled companions as human shields is an allowed tactic in dodgeball.
Warnings
- The most common injuries in dodgeball are broken noses, abdominal pain, sprained ankles, cramps, anger, broken limbs, and knee injuries. You can also experience bruising and redness if the balloon hits you with some force.
- If a ball is aimed at your head, duck. Make a sharp angle with your knees. Bring your legs towards your chest and bend your back forward.
- Dodgeball can cause you stress if you are not a sporty person.
