To remove the supporting pole of a fence, it is usually necessary to soften the surrounding soil or break the concrete that keeps it anchored to the ground. Finally, the pole is extracted so that there are no splinters or breaks. Take your time and make sure everything is in order before starting the job, which can be done with little difficulty. Here's how to do it.
Steps
Step 1. Check the status of the stake
A pole driven directly into the earth is relatively easy to remove; if it has been fixed in concrete, a few more tools will be needed. In addition, all wooden poles that are severely worn require the use of appropriate equipment to manage the extraction.
Step 2. Dig a ditch around the pole with the help of a spade
It must not be deeper than 30 cm. Remove the dirt around the base of the post or around the concrete block that holds it in place.
Step 3. Move the pole
Push it back and forth several times to loosen the grip of the ground and widen the hole.
Step 4. Insert 4 nails into each side of the pole about 30cm above ground level
Make sure they penetrate the wood at least halfway so that they have a good grip.
Step 5. Secure a piece of sturdy rope around the set of nails
To do this, wrap it around each exposed part of the nails in succession and finally tie the rope around the body of the pole.
Step 6. Create a lever to help you with your mining operations
Arrange two or three layers of concrete blocks on one side of the moat and then lay a thick plank on top of them.
Step 7. Tie the rope to the end of the axis closest to the pole
Insert a couple of nails into the axis to create a secure hook for the rope.
Step 8. Stand on the opposite side of the axis
The effect is similar to that of a swing, you will push your side of the lever down and the tension on the rope will pull the pole upwards, slowly extracting it from the ground.
Step 9. Remove the pole from the hole
Once moved, detach the rope and move the pole from the hole.
Advice
- This job is simpler when done in two people. The weight of an individual may not be sufficient to move the pole making this home lever inefficient. The weight of two people, on the other hand, should be enough.
- Removing a pole fixed with concrete may require the use of heavy equipment such as a specific extractor. There are motorized models that work by hooking the pole with a toothed vice and then using the power of the motor to extract it.
- An alternative method is to stick a metal ring over the pole and put nails on top of it so it doesn't slip off. Finally, the ring is connected to a sturdy chain and, using the same lever described above, the pole is removed from the ground.
